Adirondack Water Week

August 5th - 14th

This year we are celebrating the 3rd annual Adirondack Water Week by highlighting the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. Dozens of events are offered across the Adirondacks to help you get out and enjoy our waterways and learn about protecting clean water. We hope you’ll join us for this year’s celebration!

Maintain the Chain

August 5-14
The Fulton Chain of Lakes Association (FCLA) and the Boon Family of Fourth Lake invite you to participate in the annual Boon Family tradition to "Maintain the Chain".

The Wild Center: Canoe Trips

Daily, August 5-14
The Wild Center

Visit The Wild Center in Tupper Lake for daily guided canoe trips during Adirondack Water Week. Every trip is led by a NYS Licensed Guide and Wild Center naturalist, ready to take you on an amazing trip through the Raquette River’s Oxbow as you explore different marsh habitats and catch a glimpse of native wildlife.

Backcountry Water Monitoring: Horseshoe Pond

Friday, August 5 9am-4pm
Upper Saranac Lake Boat Launch

Join the Adirondack Mountain Club for this paddling day trip to conduct a citizen science survey at Horseshoe Pond. We will discuss how to identify native and non-native species while out on the water and share our findings. Approx. 4 miles flatwater paddling.

Lake Protectors Training

Saturday, August 6 1pm-4pm
Sacandaga Park & River Walk

The Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) staff will join with Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District (HCSWCD) to host a Lake Protectors training on August 6 from 1:00 - 4:00pm in Speculator, NY, at the pavilion in Sacandaga Park and River Walk. This event is part of Adirondack Water Week, a week-long celebration of all our amazing water resources in the Adirondack Park.

Guided Canoe Paddle

Sunday, August 7 10am-12pm
Paul Smith's VIC

Enjoy a beginner level canoe paddle on Barnum Pond with VIC staff. Participants will learn about Adirondack wetlands and bogs and the fascinating diversity of life they support as you navigate along the Barnum Outlet into Barnum Pond.

Wool & Water Presentation

Tuesday, August 9 7pm-9pm
Whallonsburg Grange

Join us for an evening presentation of Wool and Water during Adirondack Water Week at the Whallonsburg Grange. This program will encourage attendees to create their own science and fiber art pieces!

Sips and Science

Wednesday, August 10 4:30pm-6:30pm
Hotel Saranac

Join staff from the Adirondack Watershed Institute at Hotel Saranac for drinks. AWI staff will be available to discuss their work and answer any questions you have about protecting clean water.

Discovery Series: Stream Sampling

Friday, August 12 9am-11am
Lake George Land Conservancy

Join the Lake George Land Conservancy and Up Yonda Farm for an event from their Discovery Series. There’s tons of life in a moving stream, you just have to know where to look! We’ll use nets to collect samples, and will practice using observations to identify what we’ve found.

Wool & Water Workshop

Saturday, August 13 12pm-4pm
Northwood School Innovation Hub

Join Michale Glennon, Ph.D. and Adirondack Watershed Institute staff on Saturday, August 13th for a Wool and Water Workshop. This workshop is particularly relevant for knitters and crocheters, but all are welcome to join.

Northwood School Innovation Hub

Water is everywhere in the Adirondack Park. Bring the whole family to the Innovation Hub for water-based games, activities, and information.

Funding for this project came from a 2022 Special Program Grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership.
Boaters launching motorized watercraft into Adirondack waterbodies, or those within 10 miles of the park boundary, are now required to certify that they have followed Clean, Drain, Dry measures. Watch the video above to learn more and check out our FAQ page on this new law.
