Dear members and organic supporters,

Spring is here and it’s been wonderful waking up to robins and hearing about all the activity on your farms. And although it feels like more than a few weeks ago, it was nice seeing some of you virtually at our conference. I’d like to thank Michelle and the conference committee for all their hard work on a successful conference this year. If you didn’t make it, you can check out the virtual fields days on our YouTube channel.

There continues to be a lot of activity within our organization. A few highlights include:
  • Getting the listserv up and running again. It’s been an important platform to share resources, ideas and experiences, which Hermann Bruns shares the story of in the upcoming BCOG.
  • Sharing our new swag, which my sister took photos of for our new online store. Mary, with support from Tristan Banwell, Brody Irvine and Annelise Grube-Cavers, put a lot of effort into finding sustainably sourced merchandise. I hope you enjoy it!
  • Engaging with a government relations working group with Farmers for Climate Solutions, and working with our colleagues across the country.
  • Continuing to grow our relations with the ministry, as I’m building upon some current projects. Heather, Niklaus and I recently met with the new Deputy Minister for AFF and it was a great introductory meeting sharing who we are and what we do, as well as sector challenges.
Please watch your inbox for upcoming information about the Canada Organic Standards review.

If you’re keen to meet an Organic BC team member, now is your chance. Mary is at the Pacific Agriculture Show over the next few days. And if you’re ever in the Vernon area, reach out to us.
