Final Preparations Ahead of Reopening

As with all projects, when you've had a long time to work on them, they always go down to the wire.     But at last we're almost ready to welcome you all back from Friday.     The camping pods have been delivered and the new ensuite bedrooms are just awaiting their carpets.   After a long period of furlough, our wonderful hostel staff return to work this weekend - let's hope we can all remember what to do.

The Self Catering Kitchen Will Be Open

The self catering kitchen will be open, but unlike in this picture, there'll be some social distancing restrictions.
We received great news on Monday, when the government published the detailed guidance for Step 3, which takes place on 17th May.     Included in the guidance was the confirmation that communal self catering kitchens can reopen, provided that social distancing can be managed.
This means you will be able to self cater, but there will have to be limitations.
  • A maximum of two people will be able to use the cooking area at any one time.
  • We'll ask you to cook alone for your household, in order to allow space for someone else to cook.
  • You'll be able to use the tables in the self catering kitchen in your household groups, although we've reduced the number of tables.
  • We'll keep the kitchen well ventilated with the windows open and the extraction on at all time.
  • The kitchen will be deep cleaned daily, and there will be additional cleaning and sanitisation throughout the day.
We expect the kitchen to be in high demand, so recommend cooking outside of the expected peak times, to avoid disappointment and frustration.

Focus on Camping Pods

Our new four person camping pods are here and ready for you.    These are simple camping pods, in a woodland setting looking out over the hostel lawn and up to Cat Bells and Maiden Moor.    What could be better than sitting out on your own deck and watching the sun set, then retreating to the warmth of your heated pod, for a comfortable nights sleep, before being woken to the sound of woodland birdsong.

We've chosen simple camping pods, without bathrooms or a kitchen, to offer an alternative, for those who want to enjoy the outdoor feel of camping, but with the comforts of beds, lighting, heating and somewhere to charge your phone!   It's just a short walk up to the hostel for toilets, showers, lounge, games rooms and the self catering kitchen.

With two single beds and a double bed sized futon at the rear, our pods are perfect for families or groups of up to four adults.   Bedding isn't provided, but for those who are travelling light, or forget, a bedding pack can be hired at £5 per person per stay.

Summer prices for camping pods, start from £60 per night.   BOOK NOW to avoid disappointment.

Dogs Are Welcome in the Camping Pods

Whilst we don't allow dogs in to the hostel building, you are more than welcome to bring up to two well behaved dogs to stay with you in camping dogs.   There is an additional charge of £5 per dog per night, and we might throw in a couple of Bonios for free.

New Hostel Wifi System

We've taken time to upgrade the system we use to provide our guest wifi, which will give you an improved experience, and also ensures we are fully compliant with our duties to protect users and their data.     You will need to login to access wifi, which helps us in our duty to control who is online and what is being accessed.
The new hub is now located outside the hostel lounge, giving the best signal in the lounge, pool room and dining room.   No need to hang out at reception anymore!
We're still limited by the slow ADSL line in to the hostel, and we're currently trialing a 4G outdoor router which may be the best way to give you all faster guest wifi in the future.
