OPENING ACTS: "Y Tu Sombra," Gaby Moreno

You know how sometimes you see someone fairly early in their career and you think, "they're probably gonna be a huge star?" I saw singer/songwriter Gaby Moreno (from Guatemala by way of LA) open for Calexico some years back, and had that exact thought. A beautiful voice with an effortless delivery.

Even though they're different styles (and languages) the vibe of Moreno's song bought to mind one of the most influential tunes of all time... and this fascinating deep dive into the song's structure, origins, and politico-cultural context. Set aside a half hour to watch this when you want to geek out about music for a while.
