For well over a decade now, my wife (who *loves* Halloween) and I have been compiling a playlist of songs to play during the leadup to October 31. Some are cheeky or silly, some are spooky; some are classics—"Thriller," "Werewolves of London," "Don't Fear the Reaper," etc.—but we definitely aim for a "not the usual suspects" vibe, with genres ranging from indie rock to hiphop to country. I've started recreating that playlist on Spotify under the moniker "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" (30 Rock fans will get it), with an emphasis on adding the lesser known material first. So far it only has a fraction of the 18 hours of music on our home playlist, but I'll keep adding to it. If you're looking for something to play to get you in the holiday spirit, give it a spin—and if you have a suggestion to add, I'd love to hear it!
