Last Month Highlights - Manufacturing!

This is the Composites team sanding away on the sidepod plug, the first step in bringing carbon fiber sidepods to life!
Here are the Wheel Package team's two piece floating brake rotors, after being water jetted. They will be 40% lighter than prior iterations when machining is complete!
Here's a picture of the BMS Slave Board from our Electrical team! Huge shoutout to Analog Devices and Bay Area Circuits

Subteam Highlight-Composites

  • Kenley Hendrawan is a third year Materials Science and Engineering major and one of the Composites leads
  • The Composites team is very experimental. They are using knowledge they gained from last year to crank out parts faster than before
  • This year, they have 7 parts to fabricate: two carbon fiber sidepods, seat, nosecone, headrest, front panel and steering wheel!
  • They have been machining their pre-mold plugs for the past two weeks, preparing them for the molding process
"The one thing I love about Formula is the whole club itself. We’re a group of college students who, using all the knowledge we learn in classes (and things we learn on the fly), build a high tech electric race-car every single year. This sentence alone makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something! It’s hard work, but I want to say that this subteam filled with dedication, passion and drive."

-Kenley Hendrawan

Sponsors

We would like to highlight the following sponsors who we've received products from over the past month. We thank you for your support of Formula Racing at UC Davis!
Sponsored tooling foam from Coastal Enterprises. Kenley Hendrawan and Will Bowes took a road-trip down to Orange, California over a long weekend to pick up all the foam! They met Chuck Miller, President of Coastal Enterprises
Here's a picture of chassis, which is already going through its full welds! This would not have been possible without EMJ Metals, Applied Lasers LLC, and Upstream Engineering, and we are incredibly grateful for their support
Thank you to Inventopia in Downtown Davis for teaching us and letting us cut foam in their facility! Here, our composites team uses the foam for making prototypes of parts and for making molds, but so many of our subteams are helped by Inventopia and we are so grateful!
Huge shoutout to Siemens and Sabalcore for supporting our team! Star CCM+ is an incredibly powerful simulation software which when combined with Sabalcore’s high performance computing clusters makes quick work of complex flows like our new sidepods!
