October Highlights

This is the annual Engineering Ice-Cream Social at UC Davis. Davis Creamery, a local favorite, supplies ice cream to students as they interact with members from various clubs. Here is a picture of our Electrical Lead, Evan Sousa, talking to an interested student. Fun fact: we recruited over 100 members this year!
On October 19th, we had our Preliminary Design Reviews, where our team leads, team members, and previous FRUCD alumni critique each subteam's current designs so they can improve them before Final Design Reviews at the end of November.
Recently, we went to BlueMax Kart Club in Davis, CA to run our previous racecar, FE6, to test electrical components and show new members a running vehicle!

Biggest Plans for FE7 Racecar (Preliminary Design Review Summary)

  • Vehicle Dynamics
    • Tire model improvements
  • Suspension
    • Improve upon last year's suspension design
  • Wheel Package
    • Reduce unsprung weight
  • Electrical
    • Custom data acquisition system
    • Enhance reliability and documentation within the subsystem
  • Powertrain
    • Water-cooled accumulator (battery pack)
  • Drivetrain
    • Optimize rear packaging to reduce volumetric footprint
  • Chassis
    • Lightweight and torsionally stiffer chassis with complete simulations
  • Composites
    • Double the composite parts than last year: floor, seat, head restraint, sidepod(s), nosecone, front panel, steering wheel

Subteam Highlight - Wheel Package

  • Peter Milam, the Wheel Package Team lead, is working on the design for an upright that will maintain 32 degrees of steer while maintaining structural rigidity
  • In addition, he has been performing optimization to further reduce the total weight of the wheel package
  • Approaching the manufacturing season, Peter has been searching for an Aluminum stock sponsor
