Starting June 10th -- Community Mindfulness Meditation Series presented by the Community Mindfulness Project's co-founder Erika Long
By popular demand, as a follow up to her April 20th presentation to Shakers Anonymous support group, Erika is offering to persons living with Parkinson's Disease and their loved ones a series of four 30-minute sessions, at 7pm on Thursdays: June 10th, June 17th, June 24th and July 1st. Each session will have an introduction with some science, and then a practice that will be particularly supportive for persons with PD and their family members. There will be a heavy emphasis on community and agency - exploring practices, noticing which ones fit best, and adapting as needed.
The Community Mindfulness Project (CMP) is offering these classes at no charge, but there is a cost for them to provide the program. You are invited, but not required, to contribute to CMP to help offset the cost of the series. CMP can accept donations via:
*check mailed to Community Mindfulness Project, PO Box 1713, New Canaan, CT 06840; or
*credit card at CommunityMindfulnessProject.org There is a "Donate" button on the home page.
Erika Long is a co-founder and board member of the Community Mindfulness Project. She believes, "If you can breathe through it, you can live through it"
Erika began meditating while working in finance on Wall Street, and found that it helped her see more clearly, respond more wisely and relate more closely to the people and events in her life.
For the past twenty years, she has followed the teachings of Jon Kabat-Zinn (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), Joseph Goldstein, Bob Thurman, Sharon Salzberg, Gil Fronsdal and many others; and traveled in India with Shantum Seth (a student of Thich Nhat Hanh). She has also studied non-violent communication and believes in its power to create community.
Erika is a Certified Mindfulness Teacher uner MMTCP (the Meditation and Mindfulness Teachers Certification Program led by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield) in partnership with UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center, and is a Certified Mindfulness Teacher - Professional Level, International Mindfulness Teachers Association. She is particularly fascinated by the neuroscientific research on meditation and mindfulness and feels passionately about expanding access to the benefits of meditation and mindfulness.
