Opportunity to Join Remote Research Study Led by UC San Francisco
Dr. Caroline Tanner, MD PhD is recruiting for a new clinical trial led by a team of Parkinson’s experts at UCSF in partnership with researchers from across the country. The goal of the study is to help people with Parkinson’s disease or parkinsonism maintain their independence by reducing the risk of hip fractures.
People with Parkinson’s disease or parkinsonism have a much higher risk of hip and other fractures. TOPAZ (Trial of Parkinson’s and Zoledronic Acid) will test if zoledronate, an FDA-approved medication for osteoporosis (thinning of the bone), can prevent fractures in people with Parkinson’s disease, whether or not they have osteoporosis.
You can safely participate in TOPAZ from the comfort of your home, as it is a completely remote study.
To be eligible, individuals must have Parkinson’s disease or another type of parkinsonism and be at least 60 years of age.
If you have any questions, please visit our study website or email TOPAZ@ucsf.eduor call us directly at (415) 317-5748
There will not be a meeting on Tuesday 8/31.

Keep Moving For A Cure

Did you know that August is National Make-a-Will Month?

This is a great time to take stock of all the things in our life that are meaningful - the people you love and the causes you care about the most.

In that spirit, the Davis Phinney Foundation has a free, online resource to help you through the process of creating your plans in 20 minutes or less.

“You have Parkinson’s.” An estimated 60,000 people in the US hear these three words each year, setting them on a journey that, for so many, is filled with more questions than answers, especially in the beginning. But after 16 years of working to help people live well with Parkinson’s, we know these three words don’t have to mean giving up on the kind of life you imagined for yourself or your family. We also know that the longer it takes for someone to find the resources they need to live well, the longer their Parkinson’s will present challenges that affect their quality of life in negative ways. To help you get what you need, here is a collection of our most popular and helpful Parkinson’s resources for people who have been newly diagnosed. Read more...
