Parkinson’s disease is the fastest growing neurological disease in the world. Last week the first-ever legislation devoted to ending Parkinson’s disease was introduced in the U.S. Congress. This bipartisan legislation has monumental potential for accelerating a cure and caring for people and families living with Parkinson’s. The National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act (H.R. 8585) will for the first time, unite the federal government and private enterprise in a mission to prevent and cure Parkinson’s, alleviate financial and health burdens on American families, ensure those living with the disease have access to the care they need, and reduce government spending over time.
The team at Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) has worked long and hard to get this legislation introduced. They now stress that introducing the legislation is only the first step. To get the bill passed Congress men and women need to hear support from the public—persons with Parkinson’s, their care partners, families, friends, the many professionals in the field, etc. Basically the whole universe that makes up the care teams and support systems for persons with Parkinson’s. They suggest we urge our Representatives to support this bipartisan legislation and join as a co-sponsors of the bill introduced by Representatives Paul Tonko (D-NY) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL).
The MJFF has made it very easy to express your support for this legislation. I’ve done it so I know from personal experience. Just click on the link below to find a pre-written email, complete the form provided, and the letter will be sent to your representative in Congress.
Please consider voicing your support for this legislation. It will only take a minute or two of your time. Click Here details:
