You're Invited: Mission & Vision Small Group Discussions
by Pastor Allison

Last spring, Council commissioned our Mission & Vision Team (Jeff Danielsen, Michel Hauser, Christi Wise, and Pastor Allison) to work with our consultant, Pastor Mike Ward, to develop a Strategic Plan for our congregation, including a new mission statement, vision statement, core values, and goals.  This plan was drafted, and the draft was presented to the congregation in June of 2021.  Since then, Council has been using this draft to direct our work while simultaneously tweaking it and giving feedback to the Mission & Vision Team.  At this time, we would like to invite the whole congregation into this process of giving input on our proposed Strategic Plan.

For four weeks during Lent, our Mission & Vision Team will be hosting small group discussions after worship from 10:45 to 11:45 am.  The dates of these meetings will be March 13, 20, 27, and April 3.  The meetings will take place in the conference room off the Fellowship Hall, and you are encouraged to bring your coffee hour treats!  Each member of the congregation is encouraged to attend one of these small group discussions.  Over the course of the next two weeks, you will receive a call or email from a member of our team inviting you to a small group discussion on your assigned Sunday.  If that Sunday doesn't work for you, please let us know which Sunday you would prefer.

If you would like to review our current draft Strategic Plan with proposed Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Goals for the next three years, you may do so below.  We are very interested in your perspective and feedback!

Wednesdays in Lent
Our journey to the cross continues each Wednesday during Lent with Holden Evening Prayer at 6:00 pm in the sanctuary, followed by a soup supper in the Fellowship Hall.  The Wednesday evening services will also be streamed online for those who would like to participate on Zoom.

Adult Study Hour February Series: Materiality as Resistance
Final Session This Sunday, in person only
We will be using a short book called Materiality as Resistance: Five Elements of Moral Action in the Real World by Walter Brueggeman, an Old Testament scholar and retired seminary professor. His theology of action for the church and individual follower are far ahead of his contemporaries. While each of the five elements covered in his book are connected, we will discover and discuss each element separately. You will be motivated, but not required, to attend every session.  Reading the book is also not required, but it would assist you in your participation.  If you would like a copy of the 100-page paperback, call Peter Knobel (847-494-2815), who will be facilitating the series.

Bible Study Remains Online Only
Weekly Bible Study will remain meeting online from 11:00 am-12:00 pm on Tuesdays. Bible Study can be accessed via our worship Zoom link.

Update on Mindy Davis
St. John’s is grateful to be able to assist Mindy by storing her things while she looks for permanent housing.  Thanks especially to Buck and Susan Crist for their involvement in making this happen.  Mindy has found temporary housing in the Cincinnati area near her sister, and she will be traveling there this week.  Please keep her in your prayers and consider donating through her GoFundMe.
A Note from Mindy:
I want to thank all of you who have supported me with your prayers and finances these past 2 years so I could remain in my home with my animals as I searched for, and occasionally found, work.  I never would have made it this far without you, family, friends, and community helping me, and I love you for all your support, many times without even asking.  It’s been amazing that you've helped keep me and the kitties in my home, but all this comes to an end the beginning of March.  My landlords are selling this property, and my neighbors and I have to be out of the apartments the end of this month.  Please continue to pray for me as I go through this crisis in my life, and if you can help financially, you can donate on the “Help for Mindy” GoFundMe page.
