Finding partners through the Peace Corps network
In January of 2020, RPCV Chris Roesel met with leaders of village banking groups in northern Uganda. Each woman saved $0.50 a month and the 30 group members took turns borrowing from their combined savings. When they saw that access to capital improved their earnings they wanted bigger and more frequent loans.
Following a TCP Global presentation at a National Peace Corps Association gathering in March, Chris connected TCP Global to seven women’s groups. All expressed interest and two groups were selected to start. In the midst of a global pandemic, the first loans were issued on May 10, 2020.
