Getting Ready for Promotion

It's almost that time of year again when we celebrate the promotion of our 8th graders to high school! A ceremony will be held for 8th graders and their families on Thursday, May 19. Below is a chart with details on times and locations for our schools.

Prime Performances

Spring is off to a hot start with a number of great performances in the Liberty Elementary School District. Below are two examples of the tremendous talent in our schools.

Keeping up with Growth

If you are starting to see more cars on the road or more people in the grocery store, you are not imagining it. Our community is experiencing rapid growth with new houses, new businesses, and new opportunities popping up every day. In fact, Goodyear and Buckeye are in the top ten fastest growing cities in the country according to the U.S. Census.

According to AZBigMedia: “West Valley hot spots Buckeye and Goodyear are both among the 10 fastest-growing cities in the United State with populations of at least 50,000, in the nation, according to Census data. Buckeye grew faster than any other city in the nation, with population growing nearly 80% in the last decade to reach more than 91,000. Goodyear’s population went from 65,275 in 2010 to 95,294 in 2020, a 46% increase.”

Summer Institute

Liberty Elementary School District hosts a Summer Institute for
K-3 children who need additional support in the areas of reading and/or language acquisition.

The Summer Institute will take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Monday through Thursday, from June 6 - June 30. Transportation is available to all participants and meals will be provided for breakfast and lunch.

Families with students who qualify will be notified in the coming days. So please be on the lookout for a letter from the school district.

2nd Grade Gifted Testing

The Arizona legislature appropriated $850,000 to the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) to procure an assessment that Arizona public schools could choose to use to evaluate all their 2nd Grade students for Gifted Education programs at no cost during this school year (SY21-22).

The Liberty Elementary School District will take advantage of this opportunity for all of our second grade students within the district. The testing window will be the week of April 25th-29th. A letter with this information went out to all families at the beginning of the month. That letter included information on how to opt out of this testing should parents choose to do so.

Any second grade student who is already identified as gifted will not take the assessment.

L.E.A.P. Summer Camp

School may be out once it hits summertime, but the fun doesn't have to be over! L.E.A.P. holds a summer camp, filled with festivities, field trips and more!

It's also not too early to sign up for L.E.A.P. for the 2022-2023 school year. You can do so by clicking HERE.

LESD Enrollment Events

Still need to enroll a child for the next school year? Come to one of two upcoming enrollment events to enroll for any grade or school. LESD staff will be on hand to assist with any forms and answer any questions you may have.

April 14 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Driving our Future Leaders

Deb Cooper is a face well known in the Liberty Elementary School District. She goes above and beyond, doing her work as an assistant mechanic, but also filling in as a school bus driver.

Become a Teacher!

Having a four-year degree in education isn't the only pathway to become a teacher. Rio Salado’s Teacher-In-Residence (TIR) intern program provides a convenient, cost-effective way for students and working professionals with a bachelor’s degree to transition into a K-12 teaching career.

Through paid employment opportunities in the classroom, post-secondary students can earn an income while completing the certification coursework. The program can be completed in two years and is available to Arizona residents only.

Several virtual orientations are coming up if you want to learn more:

April 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
May 4 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
May 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Opportunity to Make a Difference

This is your last chance to utilize the Arizona School Tax Credit. Not only do our students benefit greatly from these donations, but our families also receive a dollar-for-dollar return during tax season. The donations reduce your Arizona state tax liability. The deadline to donate for this tax cycle is April 18.

Married couples filing jointly can donate up to $400 per year. That amount is $200 for single individuals, heads of household, or married couples filing separately. Any person filing taxes in Arizona can donate - family, friends, neighbors, you name it!

You also have choices for where your money makes an impact. Each of our seven schools identified its greatest need. You can donate to the greatest need or specify for things like athletics, arts, activities or field trips.
