Faith Formation in a Post-Pandemic World

The pandemic disrupted all of life, including the ways we have done faith formation. Now as we emerge into the post-pandemic world, we can begin planning for the future. Join us for a webinar series and accompanying resources from Lifelong Faith Associates that will help us answer the question: "What will faith formation look like as we emerge from the pandemic in Fall 2021 and beyond?"

Each webinar is 90 minutes long and includes a presentation, group interaction, and application activities. All webinars begin at 10 am via Zoom:
  • June 2 - Designing Hybrid Faith Formation for the Post-Pandemic World
  • June 23 - Building Community and Relationships in a Post-Pandemic World
  • July 14 - Designing Children and Family Faith Formation for the Post-Pandemic World
  • July 28 - Designing Adolescent & Emerging Adult Faith Formation for the Post-Pandemic World
Resources that will assist parishes in designing faith formation accompany each webinar. Videos of each presentation will also be available after the presentation to share with your leaders and parish teams. Click here for more details.

World Communications Day

On May 16, we celebrated World Communications Day.  This year, Pope Francis chose the theme "Come and See" (John 1:46).  In his message to the faithful, the Pope challenges all of us to communicate the joy of the Christian life by encountering people where they are and as they are. "We do not communicate merely with words", the Holy Father says, "but with our eyes, the tone of our voice and our gestures. Jesus’ attractiveness to those who met him depended on the truth of his preaching; yet the effectiveness of what he said was inseparable from how he looked at others, from how he acted towards them, and even from his silence."

Pope Francis concluded his message with this prayer, which speaks to all of our work as missionary disciples:

Lord, teach us to move beyond ourselves,
and to set out in search of truth.

Teach us to go out and see,
teach us to listen,
not to entertain prejudices
or draw hasty conclusions.

Teach us to go where no one else will go,
to take the time needed to understand,
to pay attention to the essentials,
not to be distracted by the superfluous,
to distinguish deceptive appearances from the truth.

Grant us the grace to recognize your dwelling places in our world
and the honesty needed to tell others what we have seen.

Lay Ecclesial Ministry

Annual Retreat
Friday, July 16, 7 pm to
Saturday, July 17, 7 pm

“Gathering in the Garden of Our Lord"

Led by Lisa Radey, Pastoral Associate, this retreat will explore the themes of living the abundant life with Christ, what to do with the “weeds”, and fostering “quiet” growth.  This past year has brought unprecedented challenges as well as abundant joyful moments, wrapped up in our experiences within the pandemic.  Much to grieve, much to celebrate and give thanks to God for. Lay ministers and parish staff are invited to participate:
  • IN-PERSON at Jesuit Retreat Center (Limited to 35 participants): $110. Participants may arrive as early as 3pm, to enjoy the retreat center chapel and grounds prior to the 6pm check-in time for the retreat.
  • ON-LINE with presentations and small group discussions: $45. We encourage you to prepare a retreat environment at home with candles, bible, prayer table, rosary, cross, etc. Registration is required so we may plan for small discussion groups.
Scholarships are available. Contact the Lay Ecclesial Ministry Office with questions or for scholarship information at 440-943-7670 or by email.

We continue to celebrate the Year of the Family!

Here are a few resources for June and July:
Father’s Day Blessing: On Sunday, June 20, we celebrate Father’s Day. We encourage families to pray the order of blessings for celebrating Father’s Day in households. Available for download here.
Prayer for World Refugee Day: The United Nations has set aside Sunday, June 20 as World Refugee Day. We remember and pray for those families experiencing life as refugees. A special prayer for refugees and refugee families, appropriate for use in both households and at Mass, is available here.
Blessing for Grandparents & the Elderly: New this year, Pope Francis has announced that we will celebrate World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly on the fourth Sunday of July, near to the July 26 liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne. Special prayer resources for our grandparents and the elderly are available on our website.

New Ministry of Catechist

Pope Francis has formally instituted the office of catechist as a lay ministry within the Church. In his Apostolic Letter, Antiquum Ministerium, he emphasizes the crucial role of lay people in passing along the faith, and the variety of gifts within the Church. From the earliest days of Christianity, he says, “we can see that certain baptized persons exercised the ministry of transmitting in a more organic and stable form related to different situations in life the teaching of the apostles and evangelists.”  The Vatican will publish a ritual for the commissioning of catechists soon.
Blessings upon all mothers, grandmothers, godmothers and spiritual mothers in this month of May.
