Tips for Welcoming Parishioners Back

This week we will begin to celebrate public Masses in the diocese with some modifications to meet the state health and safety requirements. We understand that this has been and will continue to be a difficult time for the faithful, so we offer the following tips to help during this time.
  1. Contact parishioners by phone or email to inform them about the changes and what they can expect. Some parishes have created short videos to send out by email and share on the parish website and social media platforms.
  2. Emphasize that the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains in effect. There is strong concern that those at high risk will feel obligated to return to Mass. Please encourage those who are most vulnerable or not feeling well to stay at home.
  3. Keep an online option for those who are afraid or unable to attend Mass in person.
  4. Communicate the Church's commitment to their health and safety, as well as our promise to work together and provide timely, accurate information.
  5. Come up with a fun way to greet others in a no-contact way, i.e. touching your heart and extending your hand out towards the other person, or learn to say "hello" in ASL
  6. Place something in the empty water font, i.e. flowers, as a way to recognize the loss.
  7. Offer a virtual coffee hour following the celebration of the Mass.

Ministry Updates

Child Protection

Because VIRTUS training sessions have been suspended, extra time may be granted to allow a person to become VIRTUS trained. A person may start to work/volunteer not being around children and schedule VIRTUS at a later date. The person should still submit to a background check.
In the meantime, we are exploring the possibilities for offering VIRTUS training sessions this fall.

Hispanic Ministry

The Biblical Studies formation program and Successful Marriages retreat will be offered online during this time of social distancing. For more information, please contact Misael Mayorga.

As we prepare to resume public Masses, we offer the following guidelines for immediate preparation of engaged couples. We will continue to re-evaluate as everything progresses. Learn more

Youth & Young Adults

In addition to the guidelines already issued by the diocese, the following guidelines are specifically offered for high school and junior high parish youth ministry programs. Learn more
We would also like to hear about the creative things that you are doing during this time to meet the needs of young people and families. Please share your ideas!
