The Role of Myofunctional Therapy in the Dental Field

Course Description: Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) are disturbances of muscle function of the orofacial complex.  Civilization and the developing world have contributed to the increase of OMDs because of the decline in breastfeeding, nasal breathing, and hard food chewing.
Dental hygienists have practiced myofunctional therapy, also known as orofacial myology, for over thirty years in the United States.  Our intense training in head and neck anatomy provides us with a solid foundation for entering this field.
During this course you will get a glimpse of why dental hygienists are at the forefront of this fast-developing profession.  You will learn signs and symptoms of myofunctional disorders, the fundamentals of tongue-tie, and sleep disordered breathing.  This course will also guide you to become an important part of the interdisciplinary approach to treating patients.

During this time, we want to update you on how we’re approaching the situation with regard to our upcoming Symposium. The most important thing to GDHA is the health and well-being of our attendees, vendors, and volunteers.

While GDHA understands the change in guidelines for people that have been vaccinated, the Georgia Dental Hygienists’ Association also respects the venue's obligation to meet their CDC requirements of 6 feet social distancing, frequent hand washing, and mask usage. Therefore
please bring a mask to wear during the event and help us honor this obligation.

Thanks in advance for your compliance and understanding in this matter.

On behalf of the GDHA leadership, we thank you for supporting our Association and wish you well!
