July Recap
Online Resources
As part of ongoing social distancing efforts, in-person gatherings continue to be temporarily suspended at FCCWH.  July sermon videos, as well as all sermons since the suspension began, are available online on both the church website and FCCWH YouTube Channel.  The prayer list and prayer request information are also kept up to date on the website.  Hymn lyrics are posted when available, the link to view lyrics included in a sermon can be found at the top of the Sermon page on the website or in the video description if viewing it on YouTube.

Below are all the links you'll need to access content that has been posted online.  We will continue to post new material as it is available until we are able to meet in person again.

August Updates
A Note From Christian Education:
Confirmation has been postponed and a new date is in the process of being picked. Once a new date is confirmed the congregation will be notified of the new date and details.

As we start wrapping up summer and turn our thoughts to the fall we start thinking of the new Sunday School year. Check your mailboxes in the next couple of weeks for registration forms for Sunday School. I am asking that you complete your registration forms and mail them back to the church or e-mail me your completed form. It is important that you complete a registration form for each student. Classes are formed based on registration.

When we return to in person worship and Sunday School I will need some additional teachers. If you are interested in being a teacher once we return please contact me to discuss. No experience is necessary and prep time each week is no more than 30 minutes.

Teaching our children to pray to God is an important part of their faith journey. Teach them to pray wherever they are, it shouldn't be limited to just church. Below is a monthly calendar of ideas to help encourage your child(ren) to pray each day. This monthly calendar is not just for children, adults you are welcome to use the calendar too.
Sunday School classes are still being held over Zoom each week. If you are not receiving the weekly e-mail from me with login information for your child to attend and you would like to please contact me at kvargo@fccwesthaven.org. Also if you know a family who would like to have their child(ren) join our class each week, please contact me and provide the families contact information.
August Mission Emphasis
The Mission Emphasis for the month of August is Fisher House West Haven.

WHAT IS FISHER HOUSE?
It is a home away from home of families of veterans being treated at a VA hospital that do not live near a VA hospital. We, in West Haven are fortunate to have a VA hospital in our city and it is not a problem to see our loved ones being treated there. But this is not the case for some families of our veterans. Not every community has a VA hospital in their town; veterans are sometimes transported far from their local community, family and friends. Since 1990, Fisher House Foundation has served more than 220,000 families and provided over 5.2 million days of lodging, saving them more than $200 million in lodging and transportation costs and provided loved ones to be with their family member as they recuperated.

Your donation will help with the ongoing costs of providing this wonderful, needed service to the our Veterans & their families. This is another way for all of us to fulfill our church’s Mission Statement by reaching out to our “beloved wider community” and also to thank those who have served our country.
Please consider donating to Fisher House-West Haven by mailing in your Monthly Emphasis donation and notating Fisher House, August Mission Emphasis.

Thank you!
A Note from the Board of Trustees:
Hello everyone,

It has been so long since we've seen each other! I hope you all are doing well and are safe and healthy. Please know that I miss everyone and cannot wait to get back into our beautiful Sanctuary to worship our everloving God together!

Trustees have been meeting regularly on Zoom to continue the business of the Church. It is working out well and we have been able to get a lot of work done.

We have been taking advantage of the facility not being in regular use by completing several long standing projects. The rug in the Narthex has been replaced, and the Narthex and Sanctuary have been painted. I can't wait for you to see it!

The pandemic has stalled our fundraising efforts, and Trustees realized that restoring the steeple within the next year is unrealistic. We decided to hire the company that handled the emergency wrapping three years ago to wrap the remaining portion up to the spire. This will allow us to take our time and conduct a capital campaign, as well as take the time necessary to work with GNCB, our engineers, to make sure we make the best decision on its restoration.

We will be starting work on the FY21 budget in the next few weeks. Yes, it's that time of year again!!

Lastly, some good news! Preservation CT is an organization which for decades has fought to preserve and protect historical buildings that contributed to the heritage of communities in Connecticut. The organization is presenting our church and our contractors with a merit award for the work we did to historically preserve our sanctuary ceiling! This honor reinforces what we've all known; that our beautiful church holds a deeply rooted historical significance to our community. We should all be proud of our heritage and in the decisions we made to do the work to maintain its accuracy.

If anyone has any questions or suggestions on anything, please feel free to reach out to me. I'd love to hear from you. Again, I hope you are staying safe and healthy, and I cannot wait to see you all again (hopefully soon!!)

A Prayer from Chair of Deacons, Ruth Costa:

Dear God,

Thank You for being my heavenly Father and my forever Friend.

You listen when no one else does.

You love me unconditionally.

You correct me when I’m wrong, in whatever ways You know that I will respond.

You comfort me when I mourn.

You encourage me when I am discouraged.

You lead me when I am confused.

You carry me when I am weak.

Please help me to be this same kind of friend to others.

I pray that I will be sensitive to other people’s feelings and life situations; that I will be a true friend who speaks Your truth in love.

I pray that I will respond to others who cry out for help.

I pray that I will be available when needed.

I pray that I will laugh with and have fun with my friends, rejoice with them as well comfort them when they need hope.

May I be used by You every day of my life.

May I always share Your love and shine Your light with all others.

And may You always be glorified.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.
