August Recap
Online Resources
As part of ongoing social distancing efforts, in-person gatherings continue to be temporarily suspended at FCCWH.  July sermon videos, as well as all sermons since the suspension began, are available online on both the church website and FCCWH YouTube Channel.  The prayer list will temporarily be off the website as it is reconfigured.  Hymn lyrics are posted when available, the link to view lyrics included in a sermon can be found at the top of the Sermon page on the website or in the video description if viewing it on YouTube.

Below are all the links you'll need to access content that has been posted online.  We will continue to post new material as it is available until we are able to meet in person again.

September Updates
A Note From Christian Education:
The new Sunday School year is going to begin on September 13th. Registration forms have been e-mailed to families for those who I have e-mail addresses for. For those of you that I do not have an e-mail address for you were mailed a registration form. I will need a registration form for each child who will be attending Sunday School. If you have not received a registration form from me please contact me and I will send you one. Also if you know anyone who is looking for a Sunday School program for their child(ren) please pass along my contact information and have them contact me.
The Sunday School students will begin learning a new curriculum this year. The curriculum is called The Gospel Project. The curriculum begins with creation and goes through the entire Bible over three years. It will provide the children with a strong foundation for when they get to Confirmation.
When we return to in person worship and Sunday School I will need some additional teachers. If you are interested in being a teacher once we return please contact me to discuss. No experience is necessary and prep time each week is no more than 30 minutes.
Teaching our children to pray to God is an important part of their faith journey. Teach them to pray wherever they are, it shouldn't be limited to just church. Below is a monthly calendar of ideas to help encourage your child(ren) to pray each day. This monthly calendar is not just for children, adults you are welcome to use the calendar too.
Sunday School classes are still being held over Zoom each week. If you are not receiving the weekly e-mail from me with login information for your child to attend and you would like to please contact me at Also if you know a family who would like to have their child(ren) join our class each week, please contact me and provide the family's contact information.
A Note from the Board of Trustees:
As I communicated last month, the work on our sanctuary has earned a 2020 Preservation CT Award of Merit. Our plaster contractor, John Canning & Associates, published information on the project and award on their website

We are beginning the next phase of exterior door replacement. We will be replacing the doors on Church Street, Savin Avenue and the patio, and replacing the magnetic locks with the electronic strikes as we did on Campbell Avenue. We will be adding security to the Savin Avenue doors, which currently only has key entry. We will also be changing the keys for all exterior doors and limiting the number of keys in distribution so that we can better control and monitor who has access to the building. If you currently have a fob, it will continue to work and you will continue to have access to the building. The keys are only necessary in an emergency, and will be distributed to necessary persons.

It's that time of year again.....budget time! The Finance Committee will be kicking off budget season with a joint meeting with Trustees and the Pastor in September to hear Rev. Carl's vision and plans for 2021. Finance will then craft a budget for Trustees to review and advance to Council. If anyone has any questions, thoughts, suggestions or concerns about the FY21 budget, please reach out to me at 203-615-3906 or

As always, I can't wait to see you all again.

With blessings,

Chris Vargo

A Prayer from Chair of Deacons, Ruth Costa:

Forgiveness gives us love

Forgiveness gives us peace

Forgiveness gives us hope

It’s been a long few months for all of us and our patience is wearing thin. By forgiving yourselves and others, the days will be easier. Each day is new. Have patience, my friends. We’ll all get through this because we have God on our side.

From Ruth Costa
Chairman, Board of Deacons
