Breaking Free from Breakouts

Acne is a common, yet surprisingly complex skin condition that can affect teens and adults alike. In fact, it's the most common skin issue, affecting up to 50 million Americans annually. With it being such a prevalent issue, it's easy to find information on how to treat it - but it's also easy to come across unhelpful advice and misinformation.

With everyone's skin being unique and impacted by everything ranging from your diet, climate, and genetics, it's impossible to come up with a 'one size fits all' solution for acne. But there are certainly tips and tricks that can help set your regimen on the right track, and we're going to share them with you today!

1. Wash Your Face Daily

This is the first and most important rule in any skincare regimen, and it can make a world of difference when treating acne. Keeping your pores clear of makeup, sebum, dead skin cells, and pollutants will help keep breakouts at bay.
If you really want to make sure you're clearing everything off your skin, then a double cleanse with Eau Micellaire Biosensible and Lait VIP O2 will freshen up your skin in no time. These gentle cleansers work to remove makeup, dirt, and other pollutants without stripping the skin. They're great to use as the first step in your regimen, or after being outdoors or working out!

2. Don't Over-Exfoliate

Many of us have seen those DIY acne treatments using toothpaste or rubbing alcohol, or perhaps those grainy cleansers and scrubs. Those will ultimately do more harm than good, as they can dry out your skin and cause it to produce more sebum to compensate. Harsh exfoliants can also strip away healthy skin cells, cause irritation, redness, and inflammation, and leave open wounds, leading to a higher chance of scarring.
For a powerful, purifying product that won't unbalance your skin, look no further than Masque Vivant. This masque is great on its own, and can leave your skin feeling fresh and soft, but it's even better when you bring along a friend with it. Mixing in baking soda with Masque Vivant can amplify its properties, making it especially effective against acne and oily skin. It also works well with many other masques in the BR line, such as Masque VIP O2 - just mix together even amounts of both before applying.

3. Moisturize

When you experience a breakout, your first thought may be to hold off from the oils and moisturizers. After all, your skin is oily enough, why add to it? However, this can actually make your breakout worse.  Our body regulates itself naturally, and our skin doesn’t act any differently. When your skin starts detecting a lack of oils, it will respond by producing even more.
Help heal your acne with Creme Dermopurifiante, our go-to cream for skin that's prone to breakouts. This "prescription in a jar" is mattifying, a rebalancing cream that regulates the production of sebum, purifies the skin thanks to its antibacterial ingredients, tightens pores, and protects against external aggressions.

4. Keep Your Hands Away From Your Face

We know it's easier said than done, and more often than not the temptation is too hard to resist. But remember that picking at spots can lead to pitting, scarring, and hyperpigmented marks, which all take much longer to go away than the acne itself.
If you find a pimple that you just absolutely want to pop, consider spot treating it with Serum Complexe Iribiol first. Containing a high concentration of salicylic acid, zinc pca, and various plant based extracts, this balancing serum helps regulate excess oil production while working to unblock clogged pores and reducing inflamed breakouts and redness.

If post-acne scarring is already an issue, then Serum Placenta can help your skin heal.
This intensive repairing serum is ideal if you tend to get post-acne scarring, or if your skin needs hydration. You can also use it after exfoliating or peels to soothe the skin.
