Haere Mai!

May brings along a very special week dedicated to our young people - it's YOUTH WEEK 2020.

Beginning on Saturday 9th and concluding on Sunday 17th of May; Cromwell Youth Trust will be doing what we can to provide an enjoyable and exciting week of fun with games and prizes to hand out to our local youth.
This will be accessible online with the potential (fingers crossed) to offer a small portion of it at The Hangout Youth Centre if the NZ Government drops the alert level to 2 in the coming weeks - so watch this space for updates!

The theme for this years Youth Week, voted by kiwi youth, is “E korero ana mātou. E whakarongo ana koutou? | We’re speaking. Are you listening?”

Supporting our youth is extremely important to Rhys & Eden, as youth workers, and what is most important is ensuring our programmes are youth driven. This means it comes from our young peoples own ideas, recommendations and desires about what they would like to have us develop and for them to then partake in. Both Rhys & Eden have already begun to gain an insight into what future programmes we can deliver for our youth by doing a variety of engaging, online surveys throughout Level 4 lockdown - with a large number of youth taking part in our surveys.

We will offer another additional survey, in the lead up to Youth Week, to gain an insight into what our youth would like to do during this time - with Rhys & Eden doing their absolute best to support there ideas with the generous financial support provided from Ara Taiohi.

This lockdown has provided a positive for our Youth Trust; every Wednesday we 'login' and meet, over Zoom, with other enthusiastic and dedicated youth workers to discuss how we can all continue to support our young people during these unique times. It has been amazing to have a great group of people to collaborate with and engage positively.
Lets not forget April (although understandably if some of you want too) - and the positives it produced. CYT were able to offer a Virtual Easter, for one week leading up to Easter Sunday, where we offered a variety of games, challenges and activities. This was a great success with a wide range of people taking part. Thanks must be giving to the amazing businesses that supported our Virtual Easter with over $1,000 of prizes to give away. Please see our appreciation post below.

We feel that our Nation and Community have done extremely well during Level 4 Lockdown and we should all be extremely proud of coming together as a Nation to combat COVID-19 - this means that during Level 3 we must not lose what we have gained. We also send our thoughts and deepest sympathies to all the whānau of those who lost a loved one during these times.

Here are some examples of fun activities we have provided via our Social Media channels.
Its never too late to join and take part - plus its all completely free!

Youth Week is about recognising the amazing contributions and achievements of young people throughout New Zealand.

The week inspires us to value, support, and affirm the diversity of young people in our society. It is about Aotearoa being a country where young people are vibrant and optimistic and are supported and encouraged to take up challenges.

Cromwell Youth Trust will be offering a variety of engaging activities and challenges from Saturday 9th until Sunday 17th of May which can be accessed easily online.

If the alert level continues to drop then we could, potentially, operate some activities at The Hangout Youth Centre if it is safe to do so.

Please keep an eye out on these updates.
