Haere Mai!

Cromwell Youth Trust will be full of colour this month as we celebrate the incoming Winter Pride festival that is being hosted at our neighbours in Queenstown, occurring from Friday 28th August until Sunday 6th September. We encourage our community to be involved in celebrating our LGBTTQ+ community by exploring the variety of events they have on offer.

As proud Pride Pledge members CYT know the importance with providing visibility, safety, inclusion, tolerance and diversity for all people - especially our youth - through a safe and supportive environment. Additionally, we feel the importance of awareness and learning supports the above; that is why we are excited to host two fabulous drag queens, Erika and CoCo, for a free and informative Q&A event, for youth, at The Hangout Youth Centre (more details are located further down)

The rest of August is also going to be extremely busy and popular, for our youth, as we have a number of Youth Development Programmes open for registration.

This includes our popular Cooking Programme; but this time we are exploring the wide variety of cultures throughout Cromwell with the support of Monsoon Restaurant, Armando's Kitchen & Amigos Mexican Grill who will provide hands-on learning experiences where our youth can take those skills they learn and bring it back home to cook some delicious meals.

Additionally, we are excited to collaborate with the Lions Club of Cromwell & Central Otago District Council as we 'Choose to Reuse' through an engaging and informative programme which aims to enable our youth to develop and implement a new initiative that aims to benefit our environment and community.

Looking back on July we had such an adventurous experience for two amazing weeks during our Winter Holiday Programme. From Ice Skating, Paintball, Frisbee Golf, Crazy Arts, Minute to Win It Challenges and Giving Back to our community it was extremely busy and incredible to see the numbers of youth participating and enjoying themselves each day.

Since we have resumed, post-lockdown, we have seen exponential numbers each afternoon at The Hangout Youth Centre where Rhys & Eden are enjoying the company of 30+ young people per day. This is continuing to increase and with new faces and registrations coming through on a weekly basis we are always looking for some local heroes who may be keen to volunteer their time for one day a week from 3pm - 5:30pm to support the positive role modelling in a safe and supportive environment.

If this sounds like you then please contact Rhys via email at or learn more about our volunteering opportunities by clicking this link

Stay safe, warm and we look forward to a colourful August!

Come by and meet Erika and CoCo during our regular drop-in session on Tuesday 18th August from 3pm - 4pm.

This informal & FREE event is to provide youth an opportunity to positively engage with members of the Rainbow Community with the chance to ask questions, openly without feeling embarrassed, and to provide education and awareness about the LGBTTQ+ community.
Join this interactive Youth Development Programme that provides youth an opportunity to work collaboratively with members of the local Lions Club of Cromwell and the Central Otago District Council to develop and implement an initiative that aims to improve our environment and community.
