February is Black History Month and an opportunity for all of us to celebrate and reflect upon the remarkable contributions African Americans have made to American history. No matter who we are or what our background is, Black history is a part of our history. Through its R2 Hub, The General Commission on Religion and Race has provided 29 unique ways to participate in Black History Month and make a difference in your community. Discover new ways you can participate.

Community Meeting Update.
What can we do? Deb Engstrom, a co-chair of Justice Matters’ jail alternatives committee, said those actions should start with reading and sharing the full Vera Institute Report, which is available on Douglas County’s website.
“Talk to your friends, talk to your neighbors, your faith community, any organizations you belong to, and encourage them to become knowledgeable,” Engstrom said. “Because knowledge is power, and that’s what this is all about.”
Stephen Ministry: The FUMC Stephen Ministry team is looking for people who feel called to listen, support and journey with other people experiencing a difficult time. We provide training and you provide one-on-one Christian caring. It is a valuable and rewarding ministry. Contact Laura Irick at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Sissy Krehbiel at email@example.com for information.
The FUMC Big Garden team is looking for more volunteers to help plant, tend, harvest, and deliver fresh vegetables this year. The produce goes to Just Food and we have become an appreciated source of fresh vegetables for their clients.
You do not need a green thumb or experience-just a big heart and a willingness to get your hands dirty!
The FUMC Big Garden has individual 4X8 garden beds for those interested in gardening this season. You tend your own garden plot, and if you have extra to share, you can donate some to Just Food!

Family Promise Update
Our Family Promise team is supporting 6 families in the Lawrence Family Promise's "Shelter in Place" program. The families range in size from 3 to 9, and include one grandfather!
The team is providing casseroles, breakfast items, & pizza gift cards, as well as Dillon's grocery cards. Pastor Kay hand wrote a nice welcome note to each family, and many members of the congregation signed these in the gathering area on Jan 23.
If you would like to help the Family Promise team next time we serve
