Don't worry, summer is on it's way.

Although it doesn't feel like it today (it's pouring rain here in Lunenburg), summer is just a few short weeks away. With sunnier days on the horizon our thoughts have turned to lighter garments, and brighter colour. Read on to discover all the new goodies that have arrived in the store and which projects we've been working on. Oh yeah, and we're updating our shop ours :)

Weekend Celebrations!
This weekend there's lots going on! It's Lunenburg's 266th birthday tomorrow and the whole town is celebrating Friday through Sunday with Be a Tourist in Your Own Town events. You can find details about everything that's going on here: http://www.lunenburgcelebrates.ca.
Saturday is also World Wide Knit in Public Day. And it's kind of our 4th birthday too (give or take a few days). So we've decided to celebrate by giving a gift with every purchase, and for every $20 spent before tax, you get an entry to win a gift card for $50.

On Saturday We will both be in the shop, and since it's too small to accommodate group knitting, we have several suggestions for great places to knit in public:

The Lunenburg waterfront From 9:00AM - 12:00PM the Canadian Dory Racing Association will be racing near the Adams and Knickle wharf. Cheer on the rowers and get in a few rows of your own :)

The Lunenburg Bandstand As far as we can tell there aren't any events planned there, so grab a seat and knit away. If something is planned and we've just missed it, it's most likely to be live music and there's lots of room on the surrounding grass to enjoy it.

Coffee shops No.9, Shop on the Corner, The Savvy Sailor, and Kate's Sweet Indulgence are all great places to get your knitting and caffeine fix.

Pubs Need something a little stronger to get you through that project? The Knot and The Grand Banker are great places to grab a pint with your purls.

New in the Shop

Hedgehog Fibres

Here's those bright colours we were talking about! We chose the sock base this time, as many of you want brightly coloured socks, and those who have other plans will find this to be a lovely yarn for things like shawls and sweaters too.

Baba Tree Baskets
We received a new bag of baskets from Ghana, and this batch has some stunning neutral toned baskets.
New Patterns
The new issues of Laine, Amirisu and By Hand are all here!

Aisling's Hand Knit Newfoundland Mittens

Local fibre artist, Aisling, has knit us up a batch of Newfoundland Mittens! They come in a variety of cheerful colours and in adult and child sizes. There's nothing better than a pair of hand knit mittens.

Recently Finished Objects
Nuuk by Jonna Hietala
Hanna knit a new Nuuk sweater while away visiting her mother last month. This version is in Ushitita in the colourway Tiny Dancer, held double with Knitting for Olive's Soft Silk Mohair in the colour Powder. This top is soooo soft! Perfect for this temperamental weather we're enjoying at the moment.
Togue Pond tank top
Faye recently finished knitting the Togue Pond, a tank top pattern by Pam Allen, in Retrosaria's Mungo yarn. The yarn is a blend of recycled wool and cotton, making it a great choice for summer tops. See Ravelry for project notes.
What are we knitting?

With Ease, a shawl pattern by Sylvia McFadden in her book Gentle Armour. The yarn is Illimani Sabri II, a the new worsted weight version of Sabri, a beautiful blend of organic cotton and baby alpaca. This is the perfect project for this yarn, it's so stunning!
