Nothing is more important to us than your health and safety. This priority has not changed, and we continue reevaluating our efforts to minimize health risks to our staff, volunteers, visitors, and our community.With this said, it's now time to take the next step forward in working through the pandemic.

The following information details our our first phase for slowly and safely reopening:

FACILITIES: The shelter will return to opening 7 days a week beginning Thursday May 14. Hours of operation will return to Monday through Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00pm, Sunday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. HSTC will remain closed to foot traffic and entry will only be permitted for those with a confirmed appointment. This includes adoptions, owner surrender intake, and owner requested euthanasia. Night Drop Off will continue to be closed until  further notice.

ADOPTIONS: Our adoption center will operate via appointments only. Please visit our online pet database to view all animals currently available first and then call 772-223-8822 to make a meet & greet appointment between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm.

WELLNESS CLINIC: The animal wellness clinic at HSTC will progressively return to normal operations, starting with resuming TNVR surgeries on Thursday, May 7. Please e-mail HSTC to coordinate TNVR efforts. The Public Spay/Neuter Program will begin at a later date. If you had a spay/neuter appointment scheduled during this pandemic, please call the shelter to reschedule at (772) 223-8822.

RECEIVING: Our receiving center will continue to operate via appointments only. Please call 772-223-8822 to schedule an appointment for owner surrenders.

THRIFT STORES: Thrift Stores will be open on May 12 and 13 from 10 am to 4 pm to accept donations only. Hours of operation will be Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 am to 5 pm, starting May 14. Stores will be closed on Sundays and Mondays. Mobile adoptions at the thrift stores will remain closed at this time.

We will have adhere to a maximum occupancy of 25, including staff and volunteers. Parents of small children, please note that you can bring only child in the store with you. Customers will need masks to enter our stores. If you do not have a mask, masks will be available for purchase. Dressing rooms and the public restroom will remain closed.

VOLUNTEERS: Volunteer Program Manager, Sarah Fisher, will reach out directly to HSTC volunteers about reintroducing volunteers to our facilities.

HUMANE EDUCATION: Pet Therapy and other Humane Education programs are suspended through the rest of May. The HSTC annual summer camp is still planned as originally scheduled.

Our shelter and both of thrift stores will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.
