We are taking a break.

Dear BSFO Family,

In the season of solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are stressed, overwhelmed, demonstrating, and healing, we have decided to POSTPONE our BSFO activities for the week. We feel it most important to center our own energies as a small team and support the collective by NOT continuing with "business as usual" activities. We are here for you, look forward to holding space together soon, and have provided some wonderful resources and affirmations below. Keep fighting. Stay safe. Say their names.

In Solidarity,
BSFO Executive Board

Basic Needs Updates: What Have We Learned from COVID-19?

Find resources below from Monday's phenomenal session with Ruben Canedo, Kiyoko Thomas, and Joyce Huchin on Basic Needs Updates: What Have We Learned from COVID-19? Materials include slides, session recording, some awesome playlists shared during the session, and more. If you or anyone you know has the resources to make a donation to the Basic Needs Give Fund, that link is below as well. Gratitude to the Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Academic Innovation Studio for co-sponsoring yesterday's event.

Emergency Food Resource for Staff during COVID-19

Dear colleagues,

The Basic Needs Center and Staff Basic Needs Working Group have received additional funding to support staff in this difficult time. We are able to provide a limited number of $75 Safeway grocery cards to UC Berkeley staff members who are unable to afford groceries.

These funds are intended to serve staff who need additional food assistance to meet their needs right now. If you fit this criteria, we encourage you to complete this quick online grocery card form. Due to limited funding, requests will be accommodated on a first-come first-served basis. We hope to serve as many staff members as possible and will be in touch by June 9.

Gift cards will be available via email or for pick up on campus. Please note that emailed electronic gift cards unfortunately must be printed for use. If you have already received a physical grocery card from the university during the campus closure via your manager, you are ineligible for this additional award.

We are also continuing to hold physical grocery bag distributions until the Food Pantry is able to reopen. The next distribution is Tuesday, June 9th, 2–4pm at Crossroads Dining Hall, 2415 Bowditch Street. No need to sign up in advance, just show up and bring your Cal ID. Please wear a mask and practice 6 feet of physical distancing. If you are immunocompromised or face significant barriers to leaving your home, volunteers are working with the Basic Needs Center to do limited deliveries, please fill out this delivery form

Additional information and updates about campus and community-based programs and resources can be found on the Basic Needs Center Guide to COVID-19.

Please share this information with your colleagues and reach out to if you have any questions or concerns.
