Dear BSFO Family,

We hope that you have taken the day to VOTE, practice self-care, unplug from stressors, and plug-in to healthy and affirming practices. Voting locations are still open in the Bay Area, and please find more information on the California Secretary of State website to submit your ballot in time.

Last week, Advancing Practice presented a session on Election 2020: Supporting Our Students and Ourselves, featuring moderator and panelists, Daniel Choi, Miyako Iwata, Srija Manchkanti, Sandra Bass, Cynthia Medina, Julian Ledesma. We encourage you to view the Session recording and Links to resources as you consider support services available for Black staff, faculty, and students. Specifically, BEAM (Black Emotional And Mental Health) collective has helpful coping tools and resources, including a conversation example, Healing & Accountability Circles, Community Care Support Plan:

Cultivating Relationships to Further your Career
Tuesday, November 17  | 12:00pm - 1:00pm 
Join the Black Staff and Faculty Organization,  Alianza, and the Native American Staff Council for this collaborative event! In this training you will learn how to network and build relationships virtually to further and advance in your career. You will gain helpful inside tips to:
  • Connect with other professionals to approach for mentorship/informational interview/ sponsorship
  • How to Introduce and Approach Professionals (emails, LinkedIn etc)
  • Learn successful tips on how to build authentic long lasting relationships that will help you grow and give as a professional.
  • How to maintain the newly established connections for career advancement.

About the Speaker: Patricia Villegas, MSW, PPSC graduated with her Masters Degree from University Southern California as a Social Work Practitioner with an undergraduate degree from San Jose University with a Bachelors of Art in Social Work. She is a lifelong learner and is consistently enrolled in professional development courses.
