May 2020 Newsletter

Happy May BSFO Family,

Congratulations! We made it through an extraordinary academic year, and we hope that you took time this weekend to celebrate. Also, we extend a special congratulations to all of the 2020 GRADUATES in your families, communities, and to our Berkeley students for their great achievements! If YOU also graduated from a program or institution during this season and would like to share with BSFO, please feel free to email us at bsfo2@berkeley.edu for a special shout out.

Finally, ICYMI, check out the "Blockeley University" commencement, and President Barack Obama's commencement speech to the Class of 2020.

Please find more information on upcoming BSFO events, BSFO Elections, and resources from our campus and community below, and we look forward to connecting with you in the near future.

In Solidarity,
BSFO Executive Board

BSFO 2020-2021 Elections Are Coming Up! Submit your nomination starting May 19.

The Black Staff & Faculty Organization is seeking candidates for our 2020-2021 Executive Board. Whether you are new to the campus or a seasoned staff member, YOU are an important voice on campus and we invite you to learn more about serving on leadership with BSFO!

Being on the BSFO leadership team is an excellent professional development opportunity at Berkeley, and allows team members to have a voice with campus leadership regarding critical staff decisions.

Especially in this season, where we find that communities of color are being marginalized at higher rates in the workplace during COVID-19, it will be even more important to have BSFO speak up for the needs and rights of Black staff and faculty across the campus. Learn more on the roles and responsibilities, and a timeline for nominations and elections, below.

Update from People & Culture: No Routine Meetings on Friday Afternoons

...Beginning next Friday, May 22, 2020, routine work meetings should not be scheduled on Friday afternoons between 1 pm and 5 pm. This change was prompted by the feedback we received from you in our first Employee Morale Survey, and we committed to several action items. We do realize there will be exceptions to this practice due to emergency meetings or the operating schedules for some units, but such exceptions should be rare.
