December 2020 News Blitz

Sponsored Tuition for Eligible Staff: Clarification
Berkeley Sponsored Tuition Program for Eligible Staff STILL Available: Get your approvals and registration finalized by Dec 31, 2020.
from BSFO partner, Shirley Giraldo, Ed.M., Employee Engagement Consultant, Berkeley People and Culture

In light of the Sponsored Tuition Program ending on Dec 31, 2020 (find campus announcement here), we have received a lot of questions. To clarify, as long as you register and finalize all of your registration paperwork before the close of the program on December, 31, 2020, your tuition will be covered by the program before it ends. The actual start date of the course has no impact.

This means that you can still take advantage of sponsored tuition for courses that start in Spring 2021, Summer 2021... as long as registration and approvals are finalized by December 31, 2020.

Many of our BSFO members have pursued certifications, courses for graduate school, and courses for general interest and professional development through the Sponsored Tuition Program and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity before it closes! Learn more >>

If you have ever attended one of our fun holiday mixers in previous years, you will know it to be a time of mingling and connecting over food and drinks. While the food and drinks are more BYO (bring your own) this year, we aim to keep the same casual and light energy and allow for genuine connection. Feel free to pop-in at any time!

If you know of any NEW Black staff or faculty on campus who may not know about BSFO, please invite them so we can say hello!

Basic Needs for BSFO
... from our colleague and BSFO ally, Nicole McIntyre, M.A.

Unfortunately, many UC Berkeley employees experience basic needs insecurity, including a lack of consistent access to enough food. This has become more prevalent during the pandemic, and may also increase during the holiday season and winter curtailment. I am writing to share some helpful resources.

Many staff have been making great use of the UC Berkeley Food Pantry, which provides emergency food relief for all UC Berkeley students, staff, visiting scholars, postdocs, and faculty. The pantry is open until December 19th, and will reopen on January 18th. Hours available here.

The Basic Needs Center staff have also compiled this helpful list of other local resources available during the closure period.

Finally, a friendly reminder that the "Be Well at Work - Employee Assistance" team provides no cost confidential counseling and referral for UC Berkeley faculty, staff, visiting scholars, and postdocs.
