Happy September, prevention partners!

This is always an exciting time of year with kids and educators transitioning back to school activities. As your community settles into this new school year, make sure they are prepared to take advantage of the opportunities that may come up this month to have talks about underage drinking and other substance use with their kids. Here’s a list of some of the observances and themes to take note of for your prevention messaging this September:

  • September 6: Labor Day

  • September 7: Rosh Hashanah

  • September 11: 9/11 Remembrance

  • September 16: Yom Kippur

  • September 27: National Family Day

  • All of September: National Recovery Month

  • All of September: National Preparedness Month

  • New School Year

Check out our pre-crafted social media content and the highlighted products below to help aid in your messaging around the observances this month. As always, thank you for keeping the prevention conversation going in your community and across the country.

Sincerely,
TTHY National Team

Under the leadership of the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking, the “Talk. They Hear You.” campaign aims to reduce underage drinking and substance use among youths under the age of 21 by helping parents and caregivers learn how to turn common situations into opportunities to talk with their children about alcohol, drugs, and other substances. For more information about the campaign, visit www.underagedrinking.samhsa.gov or email us at underage.drinking@samhsa.gov
