A Message From The IPR.Global Lead
On behalf of the InterprofessionalResearch.Global (IPR.Global) team, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during these unprecedented and challenging times. Despite great disruptions being made by the Covid-19 pandemic, we are all together in this crisis.
IPR.Global is pleased to launch, in coordination with its Partnership Development Working Group, its first issue of the IPR.Global Quarterly Newsletter. The purpose of the Newsletter is to establish a regular connection with and provide updates and announcements about the work of IPR.Global and its partners to you as our broader membership. We welcome your input and contribution to our Quarterly Newsletter by sharing your local/regional Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) related updates with us via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) to be used in our future Quarterly Newsletter Issues. In addition, we are seeking a name for the IPR.Global quarterly newsletter. We would like to invite you to submit potential names (with brief context/rational) for this new quarterly newsletter via email (email@example.com) by June 30th, 2020. We will feature the selected name and author in the next Newsletter Issue. Please feel free to share this Newsletter with your colleagues and among your networks.
With the growing uncertainty related to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic across the globe, many academic institutions and Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) programs are in uncharted territory in terms of how to respond. With the flood of information and updates on the crisis and its implications, it can be sometimes difficult how to translate the information into meaningful practical plans, and actions.
In an effort to assist the global IPECP community during these challenging times, IPR.Global has established its COVID-19 IPECP Taskforce where we are working to collect and analyze the global observations/experiences related to the impact of COVID-19 on IPECP around the globe. The Taskforce aims to provide the global IPECP community with guidance and options for consideration on how to proceed and excel with their IPECP programs/offerings during and post-COVID-19 pandemic. In this process, currently the Taskforce is developing and publishing several journal papers along with a longitudinal COVID-19 Impact Survey. The longitudinal survey is in the process of IRB review and will be shared for your participation shortly. Please stay tuned.

IPR.Global Best Research Awards Application Extension Update
2020-2021 IPR.Global Best Research Awards – Call for Applications
- New Applications close Date: Monday, January 11th, 2021 by 11:59 PM PST
Following the postponement of the All Together Better Health (ATBH) X Conference to October 22-25th, 2021, we are pleased to inform you that the application to the IPR.Global Best Research Awards (Barbara Fifield Brandt, Hugh Barr, and John Gilbert IPR.Global Awards) is also extended. The new deadline for the application submission is Monday, January 11th, 2021 by 11:59 PM PST. The Award winners will be notified by April 30th, 2021, and the Award Presentation Ceremony will occur at ATBH X Conference in Doha, Qatar (October 22-25th, 2021). Virtual participation of the award winners in the ceremony will be available.
The IPR.Global Best Research Awards recognize interprofessional scholarly works that exemplify excellence in the following Award Categories:
The awards aim at honoring innovative interprofessional scholarly work in the format of partnership, evaluation, or dissertation work that has demonstrated a positive sustainable impact on the academic/practice/community with a notable contribution to the interprofessional education and collaborative practice field.
- Barbara Fifield Brandt IPR.Global Award - The Barbara Fifield Brandt IPR.Global Award will recognize an academic – practice partnership team that demonstrates impact on learner and health outcomes through sustaining and connecting interprofessional education and collaborative practice in community-based practice settings serving vulnerable and high-risk populations.
- Hugh Barr IPR.Global Award - The Hugh Barr IPR.Global Award will recognize the evaluation by an interprofessional team of an outstanding example of collaboration between academic institutions and health/social service delivery organizations in high/middle-income and low-income countries to promote and sustain interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
- John H.V. Gilbert IPR.Global Award - The John H.V. Gilbert IPR.Global Award will recognize an outstanding interprofessional doctoral dissertation, published in the past three years (since 2017), that has resulted in a learning paradigm which brings interprofessional education and learning to interprofessional collaborative practice in a practice setting where practitioners, students and patients have been engaged in developing measurable interprofessional high quality care.
Who Is Eligible?
Nominations for the award may be made by individuals (John Gilbert IPR.Global Award) or by teams/partnerships (Barbara Fifield Brandt IPR.Global Award and Hugh Barr IPR.Global Award) from academia, practice, service users/consumers and or students.

IPR.Global Working Groups
InterprofessionalResearch.Global (IPR.Global) serves as the Global Network for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) research.
Our Mission: We provide global leadership in interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) research. We engage world-renowned and emerging scholars, leaders, service providers, decision-makers, administrators, service-users, and students in research collaborations. We promote and advocate for evidence-informed policies and practices and we foster and facilitate theory-driven, methodologically rigorous IPECP research.
Our Vision: We strive to enhance evidence-informed interprofessional collaboration for global/population health; to improve care access and quality; achieve positive patient and community outcomes; enhance cost-effectiveness, ensuring the provision of high-value care; and improving the experience of service providers.
To accomplish its Vision and Mission, the IPR.Global has established its Steering Committee with 30+ members from more than 10 different countries, five Working Groups – Global Situational Analysis (joint WG with Interprofessional.Global), IP Terminology (joint WG with Interprofessional.Global), Knowledge Exchange, Partnership Development, and Research Awards & Fellowships – and flexible number of Taskforces. In this Newsletter Issue, we are presenting an overview of the work of the Knowledge Exchange and Partnership Development Working Groups.
The Knowledge Exchange Working Group exists to:

The purpose of the Knowledge Exchange Working Group is to ensure that the most relevant evidence of IPE and CP are disseminated to the global audience of various contexts and stakeholders, including education and practice.
- Contextualize and integrate research related to interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice (CP)
- Disseminate evidence of IPE and CP by identifying the appropriate audience and tailoring the message to their needs
- Foster knowledge exchange between knowledge users and researchers
- Producing new materials and/or generating knowledge that informs best practice in IPE/CP for partners and stakeholders
- Connecting globally with other regions, acknowledging differences in terms of support needed for IPE and CP
- Ensuring knowledge exchange that is inclusive, equitable and diverse
- Explore and leverage international Knowledge Exchange forums
- Writing 2 chapters for an IPECP textbook: 1) a macro brief of IPR.Global, 2) a chapter highlighting student-led IPECP initiatives
- Members collaborating to write 2 Covid-19 commentaries: 1) the impact of Covid-19 on IPE and CP; 2) linking recommendations from the IPR.Global Guidance document to IPECP in a pandemic

Provide ongoing, timely, and effective communication to individuals interested in learning about or becoming involved with interprofessional research globally and its associated areas of work.
Primary Activities for 2020:
Goal 2. Connectivity
- Seeking to make the IPR.Global website easier to navigate for users with greater clarity about the roles, functions and opportunities specific to interprofessional research.
- Identifying targeted communication strategies and processes for specific and customized needs.
Provide opportunities for members globally to connect for the purposes of information sharing, conducting research, writing publications, addressing critical gaps in interprofessional research, and finding mentors for interprofessional research.
Primary Activities for 2020:
Goal 3. Sponsorships
- Investigating and proposing a communication platform for messaging and enabling discussion between members (IPR.Global, IP.G and regional networks) regarding opportunities to collaborate on and participate in current and future IPR.Global research projects.
- Conducting a survey of current IPR. Global members to assess opportunities for global research collaboration on important interprofessional topics to make connections (includes doctoral students, faculty, and practitioner research).
Explore compelling rationale for obtaining sponsors for the work conducted by IPR.Global to determine if and how IPR.Global could promote credible sponsorship opportunities.
Primary Activities for 2020:
- Exploring and clarifying a compelling rationale for sponsorship of the work conducted by IPR.Global (e.g., research awards, communication platform, newsletter, etc).
Ways to get involved with IPR.Global
- Join one or more of our Working Groups by completing the IPR.Global Collaboration Form.
- Participate in name choosing for the IPR.Global Quarterly Newsletter by submitting potential names (with brief context/rational) for this new quarterly newsletter via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) by June 30th, 2020.
- Provide feedback about the IPR.Global website to continue to make it more functional, useful and navigable for users.
- Assist in identifying potential sponsors or partners for IPR.Global.
- Respond to our upcoming surveys about COVID Impact, existing interprofessional research, areas of research expertise, seeking coaching opportunities, etc.
- Complete needs assessment regarding optimal ways to communicate with stakeholders with an interest in interprofessional research globally.
