Support Pediatric Palliative Care Families - Mental Wellness for Parents

$3700 allows us to help up to 15 parents! The more we raise, the more families we can support.

Many parents’ first response might be, “I don’t have time to take for myself!” Or, “my needs are not as important as my child’s!” As they say on airplanes, people must put on their own mask before they help others. The same is true for mental wellness. We think that not only do you deserve to feel happy and healthy, you will be better able to care for others when they are thriving themselves.$3700 allows us to help up to 15 parents! The more we raise, the more families we can support. Read More...

Bereavement Parent Mentor Training
There is very little support for parents/caregivers who have had children with special health care needs or who have experienced the loss of their child.  The Family Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs recognizes this lack of support and in response, has created this Parent Mentoring Training.

This Parent Mentoring Training is for parents in Michigan who have had a child with a special health care need, experienced the loss of their child at least 13 months ago and would like to help other parents that are looking for support in their journey with grief. The training requirements for parent/caregivers are:

  • Their child had a special health care need
  • The loss occurred at least 13 months ago
  • The parent desires to support another parent, possibly with the same diagnosis, who has also experienced the loss of their child.

Firefly Chat - What Can Bereaved Siblings Teach Us
Tuesday, September 13, 2022 - 3:00 pm

The experience of grieving is different for all of us, but we can learn from those that are on that journey. Palliative care and end of life for children focuses on the whole family including siblings.

During this Firefly Chat session, they will talk with a bereaved sibling to learn how the death of his brother affected him and his family, They will discuss how language can be both helpful and harmful. Throughout the discussion, they will highlight how‍ the experience impacted his life and the relationship with his mom and surviving siblings.

Click HERE for more information and to register. As always, the Firefly Chat is free of charge.
