SPHINX Technical Architecture

Collaborative development of SPHINX

 

SPHINX comprises six main building blocks that provide the required capabilities for universal application of its solution in healthcare sector.

Based on their expertise project partners have worked jointly to set up and integrate these blocks into the envisioned toolkit. Namely the technical architecture of SPHINX is consisted of the following blocks:

  • Device Verification and Certification,
  • Automated Cyber Security Risk Assessment, 
  • Decision Support System and Interactive Dashboards, 
  • Cyber Security Toolbox,
  • Third-party APIs, and
  • Common Integration Platform
Inside the above main blocks a series of components function in conjunction, so that the SPHINX will be able to run in any Healthcare Information Technology (IT) Operational Environment involving users, workstations, servers and medical devices.

SPHINX Use Cases

Cyber threats addressed by SPHINX solution


Through the development of SPHINX Platform and the planning for pilot testing, the project foresees several application scenarios for the SPHINX solution. These scenarios entail 16 uses cases that describe a set of cyber incidents.

Through the use cases classification, the project aims to better understand how threats, risks and vulnerabilities are manifested, as well as how prevention, recovery and mitigation actions can be improved.

What is more, the defined use cases facilitate the understanding of the added-value of SPHINX in relevant situations, allowing for the clarification of the benefits and positive impact brought by SPHINX.

SPHINX Pilot Cases

Testing SPHINX Toolkit services

The proposed technology and business framework of SPHINX Toolkit will be demonstrated and validated under real operating conditions, at four Healthcare Institutions in three different countries:

Greece – General University Hospital of Larissa & General Hospital of Volos

Portugal – Hospital do Espírito Santo

Romania – Hospital Polaris Medical

The project is going to organise three different pilot tests to deploy and evaluate the SPHINX solution at business as usual and emergency situations across various use case scenarios.

Based on the data accumulated under these demonstrations the overall solution will be validated by end-users, the project partners and business stakeholders against metrics including effectiveness of cybersecurity, usability, and cost-effectiveness.

European Cluster for Securing Critical infrastructures

Forming synergies with Horizon 2020 projects


SPHINX has become a funding member of the European Cluster for Securing Critical infrastructures - ECSCI, a cluster of H2020 projects for securing critical infrastructures.

The cluster is researching how to protect critical infrastructures and services, highlighting differences (approaches, sectors of interest, etc.) between the clustered projects and establishing tight and productive connections between them.

There are currently eleven H2020 projects which elaborate security solutions for the sectors of finance, healthcare, energy, air transport communications, gas, and water. 

On June 24-25 the ECSCI cluster organised its 1st virtual workshop dedicated to the cyber and physical protection of critical infrastructures.

Scientific Publications

Contributions to research community stemming from SPHINX project


As the extensive research for SPHINX development is progressing, the consortium has produced a significant volume of research articles and technical demonstrations at conferences and journals, and Deliverable reports. 

The project maintains a dedicated scientific community in the security and health domain inside the Zenodo Repository. The dedicated space is focused mainly on physical & cybersecurity applications, middleware design, data privacy methodologies, security and events analytics activities. 
All the published material can be reached as open access documents.
