Swoop’s Fall 2019 Recap
Fresh Thyme Drive
We would like to thank Fresh Thyme Market in Ypsilanti for collaborating with Swoop’s during November on a store-wide food drive. Also, thank you to our student volunteers who passed out fliers, collected monetary donations, and educated the community about the pantry. Because of this involvement, a variety of items were collected from generous customers shopping at the store.
Pie for Swoop’s at Sweetwaters
On First Friday in November, patrons at Sweetwaters were encouraged to donate to Swoop’s for a chance to pie Mayor of Ypsilanti, Beth Bashert. Thank you to the store owner, Paul Ajlouny, and store managers, Tiffany Taylor and Katie Totedo, for their hard work in planning and hosting such an awesome event. Furthermore, Thank you to Mayor Bashert for volunteering to be pied!
Thanksgiving and Holiday Baskets
This year, Swoop’s provided 51 Thanksgiving Baskets and 50 Holiday Baskets to students who indicated need. With the support of our donors, 101 very grateful students received a Turkey or Ham along with vegetables, sides, desserts and more!
Giving Trueday 2019
Giving Trueday 2019 kicked off on December 3rd. This year, Swoop's challenged donors to donate bags of food to hungry students right here at EMU. In 2 weeks, $1,700 were donated. There is still time to help the pantry reach its $2,500 goal! Visit our page here.
A2Y Chamber Gala
On Thursday, December 5th our faculty advisor, Julie Harkema, and our Graduate Assistant, Joelle Summers, attended the Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor Chamber Year-End Gala. Attendees were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for Swoop’s Pantry and Food Gatherers. Thank you for stocking our shelves with such a variety of items.
