 RIAA Benchmark report launch - online


RIAA (Responsible Investment Association Australasia) are hosting a free online event on Wednesday 8 September, 9:00am- 10:30am to launch their Responsible Investment Benchmark Report Aotearoa New Zealand 2021. RIAA's annual flagship report measures the size, growth and performance of responsible, ethical and impact investments each year. Register.

Impact Enterprise Fund leads $1.75m raise for Tether 


Tether has closed a $1.75m raise, led by Impact Enterprise Fund and joined by  NZ Growth Capital Partners and Greenside Energy Solutions. Tether's technology contributes to positive environmental impact and improving health by rating environmental quality and energy efficiency of buildings through technology. Read more.


Bottom line is not enough, companies require purpose
 

"Clarity of purpose for companies should be a requirement", says Steven Moe (Seeds Podcast). This is in response to the Institute of Directors's report Stakeholder governance: A call to review directors' duties. There is a greater need to balance profit with purpose while incorporating new ways of thinking about ownership, which are growing worldwide. Read more


100% electric vehicles used at CentrePort with support from NZGIF  


The NZGIF (New Zealand Green Investment Finance) has supported Wellington's CentrePort to move cargo with 1oo% electric vehicles. The green credit facility provided by NZGIF enables CentrePort to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2030. Read more.  
 

Global Perspective

GSG Global Impact Summit
 

The NAB, is part of a global network of 33 countries that contribute to the global market development for impact investment. This network is facilitated by the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG).

Each year, the GSG Global Impact Summit is held and is one of the largest global gatherings of the impact investing community with an expected 1,500 representatives from government, business, asset owners and managers, entrepreneurs, academics and market builders. The programme will be held virtually on 6-8 October 2021 with 200+ speakers, including the former Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard. The topics will be focused on accelerating progress towards a sustainable economy and planet through impact investing. Register

 

IPCC Assessment Report - one number that really matters


The IPCC's (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) sixth and latest Assessment Report (AR6) doesn't make for pleasant reading.

The IPCC's report is a timely and critical reminder. Described as "a code red for humanity" by the UN Secretary General António Guterres, and "really should give us a kick in the pants" by Climate Change Minister James Shaw.

Auditor-General's overview: an assessment on the New Zealand Government’s preparedness to implement the sustainable development goals including legislation to meet climate change obligations. Climate-related disclosures: the XRB (External Reporting Board) is developing reporting standards to support the Government's intention to implement mandatory reporting on climate risks. If approved by Parliament, around 200 of New Zealand's largest entities (e.g. banks, insurers, investment managers, publicly listed companies) could be required to make disclosures in 2023.
