Welcome to the 5th edition of BYOT.

We've both taken the opportunity for a little bit of time out in the last month, and return to our business with renewed vigour and energy to throw into what lies ahead. We do our best to walk our walk and talk our talk, which means we value thinking time away from the office to give us clarity and ideas for the future. Be sure to take the time out that you deserve to be the best you can be in your business.

NEW! Intellectual Property Law Workshops

We are delighted to welcome Guy Provan to our team of associate trainers to deliver a new half day workshop entitled “So, what about intellectual property and my business?” Guy has been consistently ranked in the Doyles Guide as “pre-eminent”, the highest ranking available, in the field of intellectual property in Western Australia. The proprietor of a specialist intellectual property law firm based in Perth, he has over 30 years experience in both corporate and small business.

IP (Intellectual Property) can throw up many issues for small business owners if you don’t know what you should be aware of. Remove business vulnerability by attending this workshop. The session will be interactive and allow participants to ask questions and share experiences. A number of real-life commercial scenarios will be used to illustrate the issues. Four distinct sessions will cover:
  • The Basics: what is intellectual property and why is it important
  • Names, names, names: focus on trade marks
  • Agreements involving intellectual property: securing and dealing with IP
  • IP strategy and management: making the most of your IP

Generator. Network: A new community platform for Regional WA is a community platform built for the regions to enable connections to be built between local innovators, mentors, entrepreneurs, startups, advisors and service providers. Its designed to be really simple to use, enabling business people to create connections and access information about a wide range of courses, events, mentors, exporting and so on.

The project aims to generate regional innovation by connecting the connectors, unearthing more high growth, born-global and innovative SMBs, products and companies in Regional WA. We are thrilled to be associated with this innovative program and look forward to seeing the network grow and generate new opportunities.

Lisa was invited to be panel member at the BSW Connect Real Life Mentoring event in Bunbury on 29 July.  Sharing her own real life experiences of mentoring, Lisa was one of three successful business owners who helped the audience to gain an understanding of how mentoring can help a business to gain a competitive advantage.

Lisa believes fervently in self-development and enabling people’s capacity to learn through accessible education in whatever form; her aim being to instill true self belief in everyone she comes into contact with. If you think you could benefit from business development mentoring please get in touch.

Out and About in the Regions

The wildflowers were stunning on our road trip out to Merredin to do a leaflet drop and complete some location research ahead of our Rural and Regional Entrepreneurs workshop later this month. Working in partnership with the RRR Network WA and SBDC, this two day program aims to fulfill the identified need for a training program teaching entrepreneurial skills to encourage, support and motivate rural and regionally based small business owners and start-ups.

Women in smaller rural towns are often the drivers of innovative new business ideas that can add significantly to the economic and community growth of their towns. We are excited to be working with them to assess their entrepreneurial skills and to encourage, support and motivate them to re-harness their power, and facilitate their understanding of their innate ability to succeed.

Our next stop is Moora so please let anyone in your regional network know that there's a mind blowing experience coming to them soon!

On 26 June BYOM was invited to take part in Engaging Education's third annual Student Business Conference at Murdoch University, which aims to connect, engage and inspire the next generation. Keynote speaker, CCIWA Chief Economic Officer, Rick Newnham, outlined future trends for the economy and the skills needed for the future.

We delivered three workshop sessions to students in year 12 covering entrepreneurial mindset, and looking at what success meant for them and what was holding them back. We impressed the importance of having a plan B if plan A doesn’t quite work out, and took time to chat to many students on a one to one basis to help them explore their aspirations for the future. We invited students to come and talk to us about when they blew their own mind. It was great to see them remember their achievements and become really animated about how exceptional they really are!

"Customer Loving"

Customer loving (or feedback) reinforces why we do what we do. It's easy to give positive and constructive feedback with the wonders of technology. We invite all our clients and contacts to leave us a review on Facebook or a testimonial on Linked In. Here are a few of our recent reviews:

"Both Lisa and Vicki are incredible facilitators (although I would refer to them as business boss babes!) [who] created a safe space with other like minded people to really explore the skills needed to be an entrepreneur and the assessment we were privileged to have access to showed us the areas we need to improve on." Bella F

"I recently attended the Entrepreneurial Skills and Attributes workshop, and loved it. Vicki and Lisa bring great energy to the room - their vibrancy and authenticity shines through, they inspire and uplift, and they genuinely want you to succeed in your business. Their positivity helps you to visualise and feel the future you want, is achievable." Monika D-M

When you next experience something great as a customer, remember to share the love!

Entrepreneur 5.0

A couple of weeks ago Vicki attended the Entrepreneur 5.0 event in Perth, where Futurist Roger Hamilton shared his stories and tips for success. This powerful one day event gave us an insight into how the world’s leading entrepreneurs have shifted their thinking to prepare for 2020 and beyond. Later in the day Vicki aka DJ Vixon, played for the 200 entrepreneurs as they networked. Pictured is the main man with Vicki.
Vicki and Lisa often recommend books to read to their clients so we thought we’d add this feature to the newsletter. Lisa picked up Originals at Bali airport recently, to kill the frustration of a 3 hour delay and it quickly made it to the recommended read section.

Purple Cow is an oldie but a goodie. Published in 2002, it still packs a punch.

Purple Cow - Seth Godin

"If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book." - J.K. Rowling
