APRIL 2019

Welcome to the second edition of BYOT. In our work we always encourage clients to celebrate their wins and this is why we’ve decided to walk our talk and put together this newsletter to celebrate not just our wins, but the wins of our clients and associates.
Its been a hectic few weeks since we last wrote and so this newsletter is jam packed with updates from our most recent events and a taste of what's to come in the next couple of months.
We hope you enjoy all our news and have a safe and relaxing Easter break .

Our Heroes of the Week

Platform’s tailored media training course covers how the media operates, what journalists expect and how organisations and individuals can develop good relationships with the media in order to enhance their reputation. It also provides participants with the opportunity to practice skills necessary for media interviews. You may recognise Platform’s media training specialist - Tim McMillan. Tim was previously Channel Nine news anchor and shares his wealth of experience with clients. Tim brings practical insights to Platform’s client base on how to work co-operatively with media and helps individuals to fine tune presentation skills as a company spokesperson. If this is something that you or your business needs, please register your interest to: platform@platformcommunications.com.au
The team at Platform Communications have been with us from the very beginning and we are immensely grateful for their support in developing our branding to come up with the BYOT logo which illustrates our message so well. BYOM highly recommends the team at Platform Communications, a dynamic communications, marketing and graphic design consultancy.

Stronger Together

A diverse range of speakers inspired and informed the captivated crowd at the RRR Network 'Stronger' Conference in March. The Rural, Regional, Remote Women’s Network of Western Australia (RRR Network) is a not-for-profit communication network for inspiring and connecting regional women, with a 21-year history of championing the role of women in our communities and advocating on their behalf. Our work in The Wheatbelt with the Muresk Institute supporting Agrifood Emerging Entrepreneurs was showcased by RRR CEO, Jackie Jarvis.

The Agrifood Emerging Entrepreneurs training program teaches entrepreneurial skills to encourage, support and motivate business owners to re-harness their power, understand their innate ability to succeed and overcome any obstacles. Participants enjoy a 2 day intensive workshop exploring skills and attributes of an entrepreneur, entrepreneurial marketing and business growth strategies including future focused business and market analysis.

Limited places are still available for our next Agrifood Emerging Entrepreneurs program on 30 April - 1 May 2019 at the Muresk Institute in Northam. Book here!

City of Joondalup Small Business Support

As part of the City of Joondalup's commitment to economic prosperity and growth, regular business forums are held for the local business community. The March event focused on "Small Business Support - Start, Grow, Prosper", and we were delighted to exhibit as part of the trade fair, where we could network with a diverse range of entrepreneurs and business people. We ran a competition for visitors to our stand to win a free Blow Your Own Mind 90 Day planning program. Congratulations to the winner, Jamie Parry - Director Governance and Strategy City of Joondalup.

An enthusiastic (if slightly nervous!) group of 15 business owners gathered at the Subiaco Arts Centre for our inaugural "Networking as Small Business Strategy" workshop.

This was not your usual networking workshop, where the focus is on collecting a large quantity of business cards from a room full of strangers. We believe that networking is a verb first and a noun second. We busted some myths about canapes and champagne, and shared with the group some ideas to help everyone find the smart way to leverage their network, making it an activity you excel at and enjoy. During a short learning session, we discovered how networking needs to be a key business activity during the course of a working day.

At the end of the session, we shared some refreshments and put our learnings into immediate practice. There was a great energy in the group as nerves were set aside and some genuine connections made. We've learnt subsequently that there has been business conducted between a few of the participants which is very encouraging to see enterprises developing.

DIARY DATE: Networking as a small business strategy - 12 June More info

Pictured participating in International Women's Day 2019 at the beautiful Arrivina Estate in Margaret River, Vicki and Lisa talked about their "stories behind the smiles". The event was MC'd by Pauline Vukelic, President of Dunsborough Yallingup CCI and we were joined by Margaret Buswell.

International Women's Day is a global initiative celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women - the theme for 2019 was #balanceforbetter.

We are always thrilled to be invited to present at events - please don't hesitate to contact us if you would like a speaker for your forthcoming business event.
