January 2022 Updates

Hello Wayne County!

2022 started off with a bang. This month’s newsletter highlights some items under Our People and Our Community. All of these pertain to at least one of our focus areas. Please share with your family, friends, and colleagues. And encourage them to sign up.

OUR PEOPLE

2022 Career Fair

The Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce their annual Career Exploration Fair for all juniors and seniors enrolled in Wayne County high schools. Students will participate in two workshops before getting to spend time on a job fair floor. Learn more here.
 
Data-Gathering Narcan Survey

A Narcan workgroup has formed in Wayne County and they are gathering data on how aware people are of Narcan and of how distribution of it looks in our community. One goal is to better target education and outreach efforts. If you would like to take the informational survey, please contact Antonia Sawyer via email at 1979antonia@jnjcomputers.com.

Wayne County Foundation 2022 Grant Cycle I Deadline
 
Is there a project that your organization is seeking funding to implement? The deadline for the Wayne County Foundation's Grant Cycle I is close of business on February 4, 2022. More information about the new grant cycles can be found here. If you have specific questions, please contact Alex Painter at 765-962-1638.
Black History Events
 
There are several black history events scheduled for February around the county. Here are a few to consider:
  • Feb 4, 2022 @7pm - Earlham College hosts Cornell West's virtual lecture on The Sublime Legacy of Toni Morrison. This event is free to the public, but registration is required.
  • Feb 5, 2022 @6pm - The Levi Coffin House hosts Redeeming Uncle Tom: The Josiah Henson Story. Cost is $8. Registration required.

We are continually seeking this information. It is also helping the Wayne County Broadband Task Force formulate strategies for the county. This test will pinpoint internet speeds, as well as no internet availability. Please take the Indiana Speed Test at infb.org/speedtest in your home.
