Finishing with a Bang!

Welcome back to Term 4 at PCS! It is quite surreal saying that as it means the end of the year is just around the corner. After all the disruption during Term 3, I was so pleased to have all our students at school as normal on Tuesday, smiling and happy to be back with their friends and teachers. We even had our three house mascots, Leroy the Lion, Emmet the Eagle and Sherman the Shark on hand to welcome everyone back with plenty of dancing and

Year 2 - Volume and Capacity
It is so fantastic to all be together in the classroom again, learning, enjoying, growing and inquiring together. This week our topic for mathematics was 'Volume and Capacity'. Students have been enjoying the hands-on aspect of this topic, as they have worked together looking at how the shape of containers can make the same volume of liquid look different, the impact of adding a solid 3D shape to a container of water and measuring and comparing volume. We estimated, measured, recorded and finally we integrated this learning with data and statistics and the children produced graphs to display their learning.
Year 4 - Mathematics
Term 4 Math started on rounding numbers and using place value to read, order and create 5 digit numbers. For more practical work on creating 4 and 5 digit  numbers, we played a game where the class had to be in pairs and use a dice to create 3, 4 and  5 digit numbers. The one that creates the biggest number is the winner. This game also helped the students to add 3, 4 and 5 digit numbers. The class enjoyed the game and they are looking forward to including it in their math games plan on Fridays.
Year 9/10 Visual Arts
Students in Year 9/10 Visual Arts used their skills to complete the following assignment - Artist vs Art Challenge.
Ancient Egyptian Games
As students were welcomed back from Lockdown on the last day of school, Year 7 History took part in Mrs Milne's inaugural Ancient Egyptian Games. Students worked in groups on a series of tasks from building pyramids out of sugar cubes to 'mummifying' a peer ready for the afterlife. It was a fun way to get everyone back into thinking about our topic and allowed peers to develop their friendships while having fun.
Leadership Nominations
Being a part of the SRC means that you can have an impact on what is happening around our school. Students get to learn skills including; teamwork, communication and commitment to a goal over their time in a leadership position. We are looking forward to seeing our new SRC take the reins from our current group later this year.

Nominations for Senior School Captains have gone out to students and are due on Friday 15th of October with speeches happening on Monday 1st of November along with Year 11 SRC voting and House Captain and Mascot voting.

Year 7 to Year 10 SRC nominations are due by Friday 22nd October and they will give speeches in Roll Call during Week 4. Voting will take place on Monday 1st November

Students who would like to be House Captains or Mascots will need to nominate on Monday 1st of November and be prepared to give a short speech on the same day to their houses.

If you have any questions please contact your students Roll Call Teacher or Miss Oates.
