Join Us at Winterland Wishes!

After a pandemic hiatus, we're so excited to welcome Winterland Wishes back to the building on Saturday, December 3rd from 9-11 a.m. Since the event last took place a few years ago, we wanted to provide more info on what fun to expect. See below for all the details!

What IS Winterland Wishes?
Winterland Wishes is a "giving back" event designed to gather our school community to celebrate each other and provide some much-needed items for our neighbors. This year, our giving back component is two-fold: a winter gear swap/drive and a food drive (more on that below). Thanks to generous sponsors, the event also includes breakfast courtesy of Ann Sather (yes, there will be cinnamon rolls!), and served by our staff, along with coffee donated by Doppio and Starbucks and hot cocoa for the kiddos. There will also be crafts, story time by our teachers, a mini photo shoot by Mr. Rench as well as a spirit wear/book swap, a bake sale, Tubman mugs and speciality coffee for sale, and a staff sale table. It's a truly special event!
  • Winter Gear Swap: Bring gently used winter outerwear (hats, gloves, coats, snow pants, hats) to the event and swap it for a new size or style. Whatever is left over at the end of the event will be donated to Cradles to Crayons Chicago, a non-profit organization that provides school supplies and clothing to low-income and homeless children. Each year, C2C requests winter weather donations to help keep Chicago's children safe and warm. More info on the org here:
  • Food Drive: Our new neighbor, Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health, is a non-profit organization that works to normalize therapy and mental health discussions, particularly in Black neighborhoods, through fundraising efforts, including its Lakeview cafe located at 1051 W. Belmont. The organization also hosts an annual food drive to provide food for 200 local families. You can bring non-perishable food items such as: pasta, pasta sauce, bottled water, rice, beans, nut butters, jam, instant oats, shelf-stable alternative milks (soy, almond, etc.), apple sauce or similar items to the event to be collected and delivered to Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health. More info on the org here:
  • Book/Spirit Wear Swap: Got some Tubman gear that no longer fits? A pile of books in need of donating? Bring them to the event Saturday for the spirit wear and book swap. Find a new size or a new book you'd been hoping to read over break!
  • Bake Sale/Coffee and Mugs/Tubman's Own: As mentioned above, there will be several types of items for sale. Treat yourself to goods baked by members of our community while sipping Colectivo's special Tubman coffee blends out of your new Tubman mug or thermos (they also make great gifts!). Additionally, this year we'll feature a table with goods donated by a few of our teachers, who are giving a portion of their sales back to FOT. As our marketplace tends to get busy, we'd prefer to take card payments via Square versus cash. We'll have limited ability to make change as well.
There are still spots open to volunteer! Sign up HERE! If you have any questions about the event, please reach out to We hope to see you Saturday!
