Fun Run '21 Recap

Our 15th Annual Fun Run was a blast! The kids ran their hearts out! Thank you to all the families that came out to support the event. We are so grateful!

Many have asked if there is still a chance to donate to the fundraiser and the answer is YES! The last chance to donate is THIS weekend. Head to mybooster.com to contribute! We are hoping to raise some last minute funds to help our school. If we can get to $60,000 this weekend, there will be additional incentives for the students and we are getting close!

Because we have reached our initial goal, Principal Gibson announced that Tuesday (10/12) will be an all-school pajama day! Thank you, again, to our amazing school community for your generosity and support! This has been our best Fun Run ever!

Holi and the Origins of Color Runs

As you know, our middle school students' Fun Run is called the "Color Run," and is modeled after a national running series in which colored powder is thrown as runners pass. However, a parent kindly pointed out to us that the origins of throwing colored powder began with Holi, a Hindu festival celebrating the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is a national holiday in India and typically takes place between the end of February and the beginning of March. In 2022, Holi will take place on Saturday, March 19. We were previously unaware of the origins of throwing the colored powder and are grateful to our community member for pointing it out and for the learning opportunity it created. We felt it was important to highlight that color runs are not celebrations of Holi, but inspired by it, and that Holi is an important cultural holiday that should be acknowledged when its traditions are imitated. We apologize for the previous oversight. Click HERE to learn more about Holi, its origins and how it is celebrated around the world.
