That's Not Being Strong

The holiday season is right here and with it comes added expenses, forced holiday cheer, an influx of family time, heavier than normal workloads, and a high volume of news of tragedy all over the world! This can create additional stress loads on the mind, even when none of the aforementioned is in your immediate atmosphere. With all of this on your shoulders, more often than not you will bottle it all up, put on a brave face and “be strong”. When in reality what you need to do is CRY!

Below are 5 reasons to shed those tears

You cry, I cry, We cry.....
  • Detox your body- When you have to urinate or have a bowel movement, there’s usually no hesitation to run to the restroom to relieve yourself. So why is it so difficult to implement that same practice when your mind fills? Shedding tears can be a healthy way for your body to get rid of unnecessary toxins in multiple ways.
  • Self-soothe- For many reasons, we don’t want to “burden” others with our problems or our feelings. Having a healthy cry is a great way to soothe ourselves when we’re in a heightened state of emotion; even when you don’t know why. Have you ever seen a child who has been fed, bathed, cuddled and they still continue to cry? Watch long enough and you will probably see them self-soothe themselves to sleep or even to a peaceful state of being.
  • Dull your pain- When you cry, endorphins and the hormones oxytocin released which work in harmony to help fade your pain away. Don’t believe me, look them up and see how they work within the body!
  • Improve your mood- Just as when you finally urinate after holding for too long, a good cry can change how you present yourself to the world. It can honestly change how you present yourself to yourself as well!
  • Balance your emotions-Crying is the body’s way of recentering itself after any emotional experience. Whether it is a happy, sad, traumatic, or a “just because” cry, your body gets a good reset afterwards.
Don't Believe Me?
Of course, you don’t have to take my word for it, try it for yourself and let me know what happens. Over the next two weeks, you may find yourself in a place where those tears start knocking on your tear ducts to get out. Let them!
