November marks a major milestone for the I-526 Lowcountry Corridor WEST project. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) is now available for public comment, and the Public Hearing webpage is live. There, you can view all the materials you would find at an in-person meeting from the comfort (and safety) of your home. In-person opportunities with limited attendance are available, as well as a series of one-on-one, live-chat sessions online.
The purpose of this hearing is to provide you with an overview of the findings of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, our DRAFT Environmental Justice Community Mitigation Plan, and other information so you can offer meaningful input. Our team will walk you through the steps we’ve taken to arrive at the Recommended Preferred Alternative and provide information about the potential impacts and proposed mitigation measures.
We encourage you to participate in the Public Hearing at 526LowcountryCorridor.com/WESTPH or at the Community Office. As meaningful input is our number one priority, we are offering multiple ways for your voice to be heard in the official project record –email, mail, phone, on the website, and in a live, virtual comment session. More information on how to comment is available here.
Additionally, the I-526 LCC WEST project team continues to seek feedback from the potentially affected environmental justice neighborhoods. As a result, a new Community Commitments webpage is available. There, you will find a variety of resources, including the DRAFT Community Mitigation Plan, a short survey to better gauge your priorities, upcoming in-person opportunities, and more.
For those new to the project, the I-526 LCC WEST project extends from Paul Cantrell Boulevard in West Ashley to Virginia Avenue in North Charleston. The South Carolina Department of Transportation is proposing to widen and improve this corridor, which has been identified as the second most important project in the 2035 CHATS Long Range Transportation Plan.
We hope you will take the time to review this information and share your feedback with us. As always, thank you for your continued interest in the I-526 LCC project.
