Welcome to News from the Nest, the Owl's Nest Publishers newsletter. Here you'll find information about our latest releases, links to our blog and product pages, how you can be involved in growing our vision for the Owl's Nest, and more.

We are so happy you're here—let's build a better reading future together!
FROM OWL'S NEST TEEN & AWARD WINNING AUTHOR K. B. HOYLE comes a gender-bent reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen's timeless fairytale of the little mermaid who fell in love with a human—with several epic twists and turns thrown in. A tale of love, destiny, and of the tension between desire and self-sacrifice, SON OF THE DEEP is a classic coming of age story that is sure to excite a new audience of young and not-so-young readers alike.

The Early Bird Gets the Worm!

SON OF THE DEEP releases on March 15, and you can preorder it now to have it delivered straight to your Kindle.

Orpheo never meant to betray his people beneath the sea—Rose never meant to put her kingdom on land in peril. But their love is destined to shake the foundations of both their worlds, for better or for worse.

Praise for SON OF THE DEEP

“There’s a profound alchemy lurking in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid—one that Hoyle’s Son of the Deep goes a long way toward recovering—and a quiet yearning here that will stay with you long after you’ve put the book down.” —Luke T. Harrington, Author of Ophelia, Alive (A Ghost Story)

“A brave young girl suddenly thrust into leadership, a cynical and jealous best friend, a compassionate merman with an angel's voice ... you've never encountered a ‘Little Mermaid’ like this before. K.B. Hoyle has given us a heartfelt fairy-tale retelling whose characters will charm and delight you.”
—Gina Dalfonzo, Author of Dorothy and Jack: The Transforming Friendship of Dorothy L. Sayers and C.S. Lewis

"If you want adventure, stunning characters, romance, magic, beauty, then this is a perfect book!" —@getlostinthepages

"My weekend was utterly consumed with either reading this or wondering when I would be able to keep reading it when life got in the way. I really don't have the words to express what a beautiful book this is!"

"I am in love with this retelling of the classic fairytale! K.B. Hoyle doesn't disappoint." —@megsbookquery

“If you are a fan of middle grade fantasy and/or fairy tale retellings, I would definitely recommend this one to you and I'm eager to see more of what comes out of Owl's Nest Publishing … they are off to a great start with this one.”

The Birds in Our Nest

After our soft social media launch in fall of 2021 and our company launch in January of 2022, Owl's Nest Publishers welcomed help in the form of three new company members: Ash Schlax, Brittany Williams, and Hannah Williams. This expansion is welcome and most needed, as we have a lot to do to keep Owl's Nest up and running!

Ash is our new Creative Director and Poetry Editor. From book covers to our upcoming subscription box to graphics, Ash is busy either creating it from scratch or overseeing the work. And she's heading up the curation of a robust Owl's Nest poetry list, too.

Brittany is our Administrative Assistant, working as an extra hand where needed on all the assorted projects (and there are many).

Hannah is stepping in just this week to take charge of our Social Media and PR. She will be working closely with Ash in creative development of the Owl's Nest brand, and in our marketing growth and PR campaigns.

Buy Us a Coffee

Would you like to support Owl's Nest directly? You can do that through small (or large!) one-time or monthly donations over on our "Buy (Us) a Coffee" page. Monthly members are called "Owlets," and membership starts at just a dollar a month. Or you can buy us one coffee for five dollars—no ongoing commitment necessary!

On Buy Me a Coffee, we are blogging through the process of building and running Owl's Nest Publishers, offering behind-the-scenes insights and stories, and there will be other upcoming benefits happening soon!

Our supporters and members have helped us raise almost $2,000 dollars already, and that money is being put to good use for things like purchasing design software, isbns, memberships to publishing associations, and other set-up costs.

Our goals for the future include saving to afford better printing options for our books, higher royalty payouts for our authors, having a presence at book festivals and conventions, and much more.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us already on Buy Me a Coffee; we could not be building this company, or this vision, without you!

Shop the Nest

Owl's Nest Publishers is happy to announce our very first pop-up store! Are you a fan of feathery, bookish merch? Because we are! Head on over to Shop the Nest on Bonfire and show your love and support for all things Owl's Nest. We have mugs, we have totes, we have shirts. (It's all so cute, you just might want one of each.)

What do we mean by pop-up? Well, this store won't last for long. Shop the Nest before this campaign flies away.

(If you are a member on our Buy Me a Coffee page, keep an eye out for an exclusive coupon to our Shop the Nest store heading into your inboxes soon!)
Owl’s Nest wants to recommend great books to you, especially books that align with our vision, whether or not we’ve published them. Sometimes we’ll recommend books that are brand new to the world, sometimes we’ll recommend books that have been around for a long time.

As a starting place, we’re recommending some backlist titles from authors that are tried and true.

If you want a book set firmly in our own world, you must read Gary Schmidt. Start with THE WEDNESDAY WARS and OKAY FOR NOW. In these connected Vietnam-era historical fiction novels (he’s also written one more connected story called JUST LIKE THAT) Schmidt tackles heavy issues with grace, humor, and hope. In a market saturated with stories about girls, or filled with body humor, these books are written about middle school boys that capture this sometimes-awkward time with a tenderness for growing pains that is palpable.

As they say, "Birds of a feather stick together!" We'll have more book recommendations for you next time. Hoot hoot!
