Rebecca's Corner 💭

Today is Friday the 13th, supposedly a day a that brings bad luck. The mythology behind Friday the 13th started long before the move franchise which first began in 1980. The number 13 has long history of being feared, even (supposedly) as far back as the Egyptians. Some people even experience triskaidekaphobia, fear of the number 13.

Superstitions around Friday the 13th come from as far back as the middle ages. According to the Catholic tradition, Jesus was crucified on a Friday the 13th. In the Canterbury tales, Chaucer warns that it is bad luck to start a journey on Friday the 13th. And in 1307 on a Friday the 13th, hundreds of members of the Knight’s Templar were murdered across France. With a bloody and scary history it’s no wonder that the fear of Friday the 13th has crept into our culture.

Random Burlingtonian Quote of the Day 📝

To suppose that God Almighty has confined his goodness to this world, to the exclusion of all others, is much similar to the idle fancies of some individuals in this world, that they, and those of their communion or faith, are the favorites of heaven exclusively; but these are narrow and bigoted conceptions, which are degrading to a rational nature, and utterly unworthy of God, of whom we should form the most exalted ideas.
