Dave's Corner 💭

We were paying $125/month ($89.99 before the many fees + taxes) for Comcast with upgraded 300 mbps Internet and standard cable. Frankly, it was not a bad deal, I never had an issue with the service, and it was quite reliable. What irked me was having to call every year to negotiate for a good price on a new contract with the threat of leaving. I didn't want to negotiate and have price uncertainty every year. They should just put their best price on their website (which is the most non-transparent site you can imagine). Our bill was about to go up to $145/month unless I could negotiate a better deal again.

So, we're switching to 1 gbps per second Internet (3x faster downstream, plus 100x faster upstream speeds) from Burlington Telecom for $70/month. That's $75 less/month but with no TV. We can get Sling streaming cable equivalent for $30/month and it will work on every TV without having to have a "box." Plus we just got a SimpliSafe security system which costs $25/month.

So, we'll pay about the same, but we'll get faster Internet, Cable on every TV without having to get "boxes," and a security system. We'll have a few less channels, but I'm okay with that. And all of these new services have no contract, so we can get out anytime. This all assumes of course that Burlington Telecom is reliable, which I hope it is. My friend Scott has had a good experience with BT, so there's that.

Random Burlingtonian Quote of the Day 📝

The utmost possible regarding an individual is a statement as to some order of probability about the future. Heisenberg's principle has been seized upon as a basis for wild statements to the effect that the doctrine of arbitrary free will and totally uncaused activity are now scientifically substantiated. Its actual force and significance is generalization of the idea that the individual is a temporal career whose future cannot logically be deduced from its past.
