17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians 5:17-20

It all starts Sunday!
Worship we’re kicking off our year-long series:  Reading through the New Testament in a year – ONE day at a time. Each week our worship and the message will center on a portion of the daily readings from the previous week. Unlike all the other series where worship started the focus, you will read first through this series, then worship and connection groups follow.

Daily readingsMonday, September 13, our daily reading cycle begins.  We are providing the schedule of readings for each day, three daily questions to go along with the readings, and a prayer focus. You can get the daily readings by either going to our OneChapterADay.com website or pick up a printed version every Sunday on campus when you leave worship. (Note:  Daily readings will be posted on our website at 12:01 am each day)

Connection Groups
Connection groups meet together (Sunday through Saturday) either weekly or bi-weekly to grow in God’s Word, pray and socialize together.  They meet live in homes, live on campus (at a place and time agreed upon), live in the Cafeteria (every Sunday at 9:30 am), or on a Zoom.  Connection groups meet AFTER the weekly readings are completed.

The weekly cycle.  Here is how you will get the most out of reading through the New Testament – ONE Chapter A Day.  First, complete the daily readings (Monday-Saturday) – ONE Chapter A Day.   Second, come to church on Sunday, where the worship and the message will focus on one aspect of our Monday-Saturday completed readings.  Third, join a Connection group to grow in God’s Word, study with others the previous week’s readings, and pray and socialize together.

I don’t have a connection group; how can I be a part of ONE Chapter A Day?

1) Let us know you’d like to be in a connection group. We’ll help you find one or create a new one.  Fill out this form or call the church and let Janice you’d like to join a connection group.

2) Join us on campus for our live study in the Cafeteria every Sunday morning from 9:30 -10:30 am.  We have plenty of room for you.  Bring your Bible (or use one of the ones we have available).  (Coffee and goodies provided)

The challenge and the blessing
Read through the entire NEW Testament, be in weekly worship, be a part of a group and discover the joy of growing in God’s Word and fellowship with other believers. I promise this will be life-changing for everyone who participates fully, whether you’ve read through the NT 100 times or this is your first time. I hope you will be part of it all, but please make whatever connection that works for you.

Let’s pray.  Lord Jesus, you are the LIVING WORD of God, who became flesh and blood to be our Savior and LORD.  We praise You for the gift of Your Word that You caused to be written down for us, for our learning, direction, guidance, and grace that we may know You now and eternally.  As we start this adventure together, pour out Your Holy Spirit upon us each time we open Your book, gather in worship, and connect to grow up in every way in YOU, our Head, Savior, and LORD.  May Your word, O Christ, dwell in us richly.  In Your revealing, saving name, we pray. Amen.

Confirmation Classes start up again at 9:30 am, meeting in Rm 207, upstairs. We have a great lineup of confirmation teachers again this year: Emily Brenner, Gerald Brenner, Dave Hughes, and Jill Musgrove.  Remember to be prayerful for the class and the leaders and be willing to support them so that your kids will have the best possible experience in their faith journey leading to confirmation.  Confirmation at Faith Lutheran is a two-year program for 7th & 8th graders, designed to enrich their biblical knowledge and teach them the major “doctrines” of our Christian faith, using the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism as the guide. Confirmation Celebration Sunday is set for October 31, 2021.
High School Youth (CIRCLE Youth) meets in the youth room at 9:30 am every Sunday morning for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.
This Sunday at 12:15 pm is our annual Voters’ Meeting to set the budget for our 2021-2022 fiscal year. You can join us live in the worship center (sanctuary) or on Zoom. Check your email for a Zoom link.
LWML - Lutheran Women's Missionary League

Ladies, please join us for a group adventure on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the LWML room at church.

Remember, if you are a member of Faith Lutheran or an LCMS member, you are automatically a member of LWML.  The outreach of the LWML is international - as you give your mites on Mite Sunday, you are helping with God's outreach.

The LWML is nation-wide, there are meetings throughout the Georgia/Florida distract that you may be interested in and there is also a LWML convention held every two years that is attended by over 2,500 ladies who come together to praise the Lord and make plans to distribute the mites we all collect.  There is a lot for Christian ladies to do!

So, why not join us?

Contact Elaine Long for more information (elainelong23@yahoo.com) or call 770-514-9125.
Well, for those reading this on Friday/Saturday,
Mite Sunday is on Sunday, 9/12, so corral that loose change and put it to work.

Handbells and Choir starting back up!

Are we ready to get back to singing and ringing? We’ve just come through a challenging period and we are not yet all the way through it. Is it time for us to return to rehearsing and sharing inspiring musical pieces?

I am planning to resume choir and handbell rehearsals.  I'm asking everyone who wants to join us to contact me. We will likely meet on Wednesdays, with adult bells meeting at 6pm, before adult choir at 7pm. Send an email to vnoerenberg@gmail.com or call me at 404.405.5268 or speak to me on Sunday. I am interested in your ideas and I look forward to our meeting and making music together after all these months!

Music Director

Yes, Men of Faith will be back in September, so mark your calendar to join us on Saturday, September 18th at 7:30 am for a wonderful Mr. Vinny breakfast, fantastic fellowship (which we all know you've missed!), and Bible study led by Pastor Carl.

After you've indulged in that wonderful breakfast and fellowship, why don't you join David Hirschler and get some wood split and stacked for the upcoming firewood season?  I've seen the pile and there's plenty of work available!

RSVP and let us know to brew a cup of coffee for you.
Hope's Happenings

Update on past activity in September 2021:

On Sep 4, I was able to participate in the 9/11 Field of Flags ceremony with some of my handlers where I met a lot of new friends. Organized by the Kiwanis Club of Marietta through the Marietta Kiwanis Foundation, the 9/11 Field of Flags is displayed every five years and has become one of the largest commemorative events in the nation.

Many thanks to Charlotte Bode who organized this event for our group who summarized this day, “… we could not have asked for better weather with such a beautiful blue sky to walk under!  Reflecting on the 9/11 events 20 years ago is very sobering and I think we all felt the solemness as we placed our American flags on the battlefield, then looked around  to find ourselves surrounded by flags, remembering that each of those flags represents a life lost on 9/11: 2,977 lives (with the 19 terrorist hijackers, this figure rises to 2,996). The flags will fly on the battlefield until September 18th.  I hope, if you are able, you can drive by, even walk through the flags and experience this.  The flags are a site to see in daylight, waving in the breeze, or just as evening hits. But, at night, in the stillness and with the lights shining on them, an awesome sight!  Also, as an addition this year, with the 13 Americans recently killed in Afghanistan, there are 13 flags flying at half-mast.  These are also located on the battlefield beside/facing Stilesboro Road.”

Peter added, “singing God Bless America was a great way to start off the walk!”

Update on Planned activities in September 2021:

  • Visits to Northwestern Middle School, Manor Lake, The Oaks, Grace, The Pearl, Cobb County Mental Health Court, Cobb County Veterans’ Court
  • Peter is in contact with the North Cobb Library child and adult reading sessions which are about to resume.
  • Colleen Umphrey of Social Ministries has asked me to help deliver soup to shut-ins as this ministry has resumed.

Please continue to submit your requests for a Zoom visit via the following methods:
  1. Complete the ‘Hope Comfort Dog Request’ form via this link: https://forms.gle/8oknB7haY7VLGgtE9.  When a request is submitted, the information is sent directly to my organizer’s phone.
  2. Call the church office at (770) 973-8877 to set up a visit.  Janice Schaag and Susie Glass are excellent sources for getting this information to my group.

Un-Taste of Habitat – You are Un-Invited!

I’m sure you have seen the news about the skyrocketing costs of building houses, but how does that affect the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat, with which Faith builds houses? The Lutheran Coalition likes to sponsor a half of a house each year. In 2019, that was $40,000. For this year’s house, that went up 25% to $50,000. Next year it will be a whopping $75,000! Truly we need your support for our upcoming fundraiser.

For the second year in a row, due to COVID-19, we have decided not to hold the annual Taste of Habitat. However, we will still be raising funds with an Un-Taste of Habitat! The event will be on September 17, the date the Taste of Habitat was originally scheduled, except nothing will happen. Virtual tickets will be $25 as always (you will not get an actual ticket). If you regularly attend this event or even if you don’t, please consider buying a ticket or making a donation to support the Lutheran Coalition. To do this, simply make a check out to the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat and hand it to Colleen Umphrey.  Alternately, you can put it in Colleen’s box or mail it to Faith Lutheran Church, Attn. Colleen Umphrey, 2111 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068. Then on
September 17 from 7PM – 9PM, simply stay at home!

In addition, you will have the opportunity to buy a 7-night trip to Tuscany for 4 people for $3000! Once purchased, this package never expires!  See the 2-minute video about this beautiful trip at https://youtu.be/SAgThaoX23U or visit the Web site at www.tuscanresort.com.  Please email Colleen Umphrey at umphrey.colleen@gmail.com with further questions.
Exciting things to come!!!!

Can you believe the holidays are just around the corner?! I love this time of the year and am always so excited when I see how much our church enjoys sharing with less fortunate families. This year there will be multiple ways to share beginning
October 10th!

We will be putting shoe boxes together for
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD! I should have all the supplies to begin handing out the week of October 10th. There will be boxes in the Narthex or you can recycle shoe boxes from home by simply wrapping the top and bottom separately. Start shopping for those items that will fit in a shoe box!  In November we will be putting together Thanksgiving Food Baskets which has always been such a huge success!

In
December we will have a Christmas food drive as well as a toy collection! We are also always thankful for socks, gloves, and hat donations. Be on the lookout for the dates when items will be accepted!
