Report for May - June 2020

Greetings from Cleveland, Ohio. It is hard to believe that we are in July and summer is in full swing. You would think with the two-month shut-down due to Covid-19 and everything else that is happening in our world that time would crawl by. That is definitely not the case. Even in the days when I was waiting for life to return to a more regular routine, time moved very swiftly for me.

On the Road Again

On Saturday, May 30, I got on an airplane for the first time since the end of February. As I mentioned in my last update, my meetings were canceled because of Covid-19. So, as you can imagine, I was thrilled to be out again representing this ministry. My travels took me to Moreno Valley, California, and the Lighthouse Baptist Church where Donny Wilson is the pastor. We did a special “Missions Emphasis Sunday,” and I stayed over to preach a Monday through Wednesday night revival. Just as we were getting started, rioting and protests were breaking out across the country and in the area. Because of this, curfews were put into place, and these curfews affected the attendance; however, we still sensed God working.
On Saturday, June 13, I was back on an airplane, this time to North Carolina. I was with Pastor Tim Butler and the People’s Baptist Church in Greenville for their mid-year “Missions Refresh!” It was a great blessing to be with the church and two missionary families for this special Sunday. God blessed, and the church voted that Sunday night to add those families and Spiritual Leadership Asia as part of their missions outreach.
On June 28, I was in North Canton, Ohio, with Pastor Phil Clayton and the Village Baptist Temple. I was able to present the ministry of SL-Asia to the church family and then preach for their “God and Country Sunday.” Pastor Clayton and I both grew up at Cleveland Baptist Church, and Phil’s dad, Evangelist Larry Clayton, is sent out of Cleveland Baptist Church. It was great being with Pastor Clayton and the church family again.

Using Time

In my last update, I mentioned developing some additional tools to help with the ministry. I am happy to share that two projects are up and running. The first project is my new website, I hope that you will get a chance to check it out!
I am really excited about the second item which is a new podcast that I have developed. It is called “Laborers in the Harvest.” It can be found most places where you subscribe or find podcasts. “Laborers in the Harvest,” a weekly podcast, is a conversation of encouragement for those who serve and labor for the Lord. These podcasts are short, usually less than 15 minutes, and upbeat and encouraging. Normally, I will interview people who are currently in the ministry and they will tell their stories. Please take a few minutes to check out this podcast and see if it is something that you might find helpful each week.

Online Training

While travel overseas is not possible right now, God has opened up some opportunities to do some training for Asian nationals via a closed YouTube channel. My colleague Niranjan Sundararaj has been instrumental in making connections in S.E. Asia and has been doing some leadership training. Dr. Chappell and I have also done a session that is broadcast at certain times. This channel isn’t public but rather available as each one in the group receives an email link to view the material. I will also be preaching to a group of men in the Philippines in a few weeks via technology. Nothing can take the place of in-person meetings, but this will work for the time being.

My schedule this summer is moderately full. Because Covid-19 is still an issue, it has been difficult for pastors and missionaries to book and plan meetings. I am thankful that my fall is almost completely full, leading me right through to the second week of December. I am now working to book and plan my January through June calendar for 2021. If you have an interest in this ministry, please let me know. I believe I can help your church and be a blessing to you as a pastor.
