PICKUP NOTES

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Hey Band!

Happy Sunday!

I try to embrace Sunday as a day of rest and reflection and on this Sunday morning, we have SO MUCH to be thankful for!

When we totaled up the in-person donations as well as same-day online giving, our same-day donations broke the $18,000 mark! This is right on pace with our annual averages, and there are mail-in tags that will hopefully be making their way here soon (those tags are where the name Tag Day comes from). In a year of adversity and challenge when many have less to give, there can be no doubt that we are SO blessed to have a community that truly sees and supports all you do!

Parents: I received several emails from random people in our community who were so happy to see the students in uniform and praising their behavior and conduct. Thank you for raising such fine young human beings!

Students: Take this as evidence that how we act is a reflection of who we are. The "uniform" is always on: folks see THE BAND as an entire unit. Thank you for upholding our identity with integrity, class, and honor: yesterday and at all times in the future!

If you have a chance to congratulate and thank Gloria Paris, please do so! She did a phenomenal job taking the lead of this fundraiser and she's already pulling together ideas to make next year even better.

This week, we are getting ready for our first competition in TWO YEARS!

I know the fall schedule can be busy for families, and many are wanting to know the schedule in advance. There are many moving parts in scheduling the competitions, and we often get the draft schedule of performers about a week before the actual competition, with final details being received week of. We then work backwards, we accounting for transitions on-site, warm-up, unloading, travel, loading the busses, and gathering materials to arrive at the report time.

Our first competition on 9/18 has a 7pm performance time, with a 3:00pm report time. We built extra time into this first schedule to allow for a less hurried/panicked experience, as many of students have never done competitions before. Folks helping with the trailer loads will have an earlier report time to troubleshoot for this first competition. A more detailed schedule will be released soon. There is also a competition FAQ here.

The 2nd competition on 9/25 is currently projected to be a 4:00pm performance time. You can use this week's schedule to guesstimate the schedule for that day. We will send out the final details ASAP!

The schedule for the week is listed above. To maximize our field time, the time and day-of-week can float a bit. Make sure to check the Band Calendar!

We will have a dress rehearsal on September 15th in preparation for our first competition (Saturday, September 18th). This is an afternoon rehearsal. Students will suit up in full uniform to practice the pace to change fast and acclimate to performance in the full uniform. Make sure they bring their Drillmasters and long black socks to school that day (they can be kept in their band locker). We will also have a dry run following practice for our parents who volunteered to help at competitions from 6:00-6:45pm, practicing loading props and equipment onto the field.

Musically yours,

FROM THE DRUM MAJORS

Hey Band!

We hope you all are taking the time to rest this Sunday, you all deserve it after our hugely successful tag day! This upcoming week is going to be a busy one, and it's a lot of fun. The competition circuit is always a highlight of the band season and we can't wait to show the judges the hard work you've been putting in.

This week we will be pushing to put music with our drill for movement three, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some weekend reps in, and don't forget to practice your movements one and two! Keep up the hard work, we'll see you on Monday for our last week of rehearsals before our first competition!

Remember, we love you!
