1. PPN News
Member's Plenary Meeting Wed 19 February, UCC

Thank you very much  for coming out to last Wednesday's member's Plenary meeting in UCC and a special thank you to Damian Butler, UCC Mature Student Officer for hosting us. Also thank you to Liam Ronayne from Cork City Libraries who gave a very interesting overview of the forecasted developments expected in the coming years and urged everyone to feed in their input to the Public Consultation.  
Read the main outcomes below, including:
  • a request from the PPN Secretariat for experience in Law, HR and Accountancy
  • invite to members to identify items for the monthly Cork City Council LCDC meetings
  • upcoming member and Representative training dates 
  • Overview of the PPN Wellbeing consultations and Cork City PPN Wellbeing Statement
Over the coming weeks and months the Cork City PPN will work to improve information sharing amongst Representatives and members and expand the website  with more resources, and updates from committees which the PPN is represented on.

About: The LCDC has a broad remit for all issues to do with community development. Cork City PPN has 6 representatives on Cork city LCDC (Local Community Development Committee). The Cork City PPN has secured an agenda item at each meeting. We would like to get as wide a set of issues as possible from the membership bring to the meetings. The PPN LCDC reps will consider the suitability for inclusion on the agenda. Áitiúil - Microgrant funding for local community and cultural projects

Áitiúil, a dedicated microgrant programme for community and cultural initiatives. Throughout 2020, the programme will award grants of between €500 and €5,000 – to those that strengthen and support local communities. 

Grants will be provided to projects that cover a diverse range of issues, including: 

  • Environment: projects that help to protect and sustain our natural environment; 
  • Placemaking: creating, raising awareness and celebrating Irish destinations and heritage; 
  • Innovation: re-imagining Irish tourism and travel through entrepreneurship;

Begin Together Fund - Bank of Ireland and Community Foundation Ireland

The Begin Together fund will support new and existing project-based activities with grants of up to €5,000 (or the sterling equivalent) for local, not for profit groups working to improve the financial physical and/or mental wellbeing of the communities they serve across all counties on the island of Ireland.

Applications are welcome from charities and not-for-profit community groups working in communities that address one or more of the strands of wellbeing as outlined in the fund criteria which can be found here.


Sustainable Cork Fund

 Friday 03 April

This is a €200,000 Fund created by Social Innovation Fund Ireland (SIFI) in partnership with Cork Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Rural and Community Development via the Dormant Accounts Fund. Grants up to €55,000 available plus a business support package.

The Sustainable Cork Fund will support not-for-profit organisations to increase the sustainability of Cork’s urban and rural communities through environmental, social and economic innovations which shape a more inclusive future for all. The Fund will support projects achieving impact in:

  1. Climate action and environmental awareness: increasing sustainability, climate change education, increasing efforts in recycling, the circular economy, green production and waste awareness, etc.
  2. Community inclusion and cohesion: generating a positive sense of belonging, particularly for marginalised and vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, people in minority ethnic groups, etc.
  3. Sustainable employment and economic development: supporting good quality jobs for all, strengthening Cork’s business environment sustainably and increasing localised economic development

Community Wellbeing Consultations 

Over the coming months the Cork City PPN is planning a number of public consultations on Communitiy Wellbeing with communities in the expanded area of Cork City and Cork city centre, and additionally with new communities to Cork City and with Youth. The purpose is to capture an updated vision of Wellbeing and more specifically to identify prioirities to feed into local and national consultations, concerning the future development of the City and country from a community perspective. This includes the upcoming Cork City Council Local Economic and Community Plan - LECP
