Is this the new norm?

Transforming Education

by Roy Harris
During the Covid-19 pandemic we all have come to the realization that a “new normal” is upon us and will be with us for a long time, even when we get back to some type of normalcy.  Education will never be the same.  From the beginning when students had to stay home, their teachers struggled how to be able to engage them with remote – on line learning.  Unfortunately, most of the students were given “electronic” worksheets- handouts, rather than giving engaging interdisciplinary assignments.  Most teachers were not ready for on-line learning.  They have learned how to give assignments through platforms like Google Classroom or Blackboard, but they were never professionally developed to be able to engage the students in real time issues that are affecting them.

At STEM Happens Network, we have all the necessary tools to work with teachers in a remote-on line professional learning series that will assist them in developing state of the art PBL’s (Problem Based Learning activities); that will create an interdisciplinary STEM approach using all the content areas for the students. The students will be completely engaged in timely issues affecting them utilizing the mathematical, literacy, science and technology standards.

The STEM Happens Network team is anxiously awaiting to work with your school teams as we develop a “new normal” in education, one that will be much more constructive than the teaching methodologies we have done for so long based on the 1950’s!
